San Francisco Area Ocean Report 11/15/06
Salmon fishing season is closing this weekend. Robert Gallia of the El
Dorado said some of the private boats that have been making trips to the
Duxbury area are still scoring a few salmon ranging between 18-30
pounds. All boats are trolling and using large herring for bait. Due to
low salmon scores, most skippers have been rock fish/ling cod fishing
over the past few weeks and directing most of their energy and effort
lately to gearing up for Saturday's opener of crab/combo trips. Ling cod
fishing will close at the end of November and rock cod fishing will end
Dec. 31.
Reports from the Farallones still have anglers catching limits of rock
and ling cod. The California Dawn with Capt. James Smith reported great
cod fishing on Saturday, catching 17 limits of rock fish and 30 ling cod
up to 19 pounds.
Diana Nunez reported the New
Golden Eye with Capt. Trung Vo fished the Farallones over the weekend.
On Saturday, 24 anglers caught limits of rock cod, and ling cod up to 25
pounds. On Sunday, 18 anglers caught limits of rock cod, and ling cod up
to 27 pounds. Both the New Golden Eye and the Golden Eye 2000 have been
busy getting ready for the crab combo season.
