SF/San Pable Bay Report 10/20/06
S.F.-San Pablo: It's been nice out, all cut blue sky and little wind,
and sometimes that's enough. The usual small sharks and large 'rays and
kingfish and occasional striped bass and halibut are caught by the usual
pier and shore hounds, working their hi-lo rigs from Fort Baker and
Presidio piers, Berkeley Pier and Alameda Rockwall, Hunters Point and
Oyster Point, and clear on down the line. They catch their fish and seem
to enjoy their day. Sometimes, that's more than enough. If you have a
boat, there are halibut being caught (trolling and on the drift) on
Berkeley Flat and off Oyster Point ... North Bay: There are bass around
Loch Lomond Marina, but never as many as the locals would like. Some of
the better fishing is still nearby, though, with boats running up toward
the Pumphouse to swing on anchor, catching bass on shrimp baits and
bullheads. Rumor has the fishing good enough to lure a few party boats
to the area. Out of Port Sonoma, the boats are heading to the Pumphouse,
as well. They're also fishing outside Sonoma Creek. From shore, you can
do just as well from the banks of Sonoma Creek or from Port Sonoma, with
bullheads the favored bait. Moving on and into the Napa River, Joel
Sinkay of Leonard's Bait and Tackle, who's tight with the trollers, says
striped bass are being caught in the sloughs and main river. They're
also caught on bait (bullheads), down toward the river mouth.
