So, the deal is? The buff, young, yogurt & granola eating surfers against, the ol ####ed-up alcoholic pier fisherman. Or maybe just those who are sick of TV.
You got too go with the fishermen, grasshopper. They have the high ground and the sharp stuff. If u can keep-em out of the sand u got 2 win.

There was a snagged surfer last Saturday night out at HB pier, he got mad and grabbed the guy's line and yanked it off the pole.

I'd say just let em surf the pier, but if a fisherman hooks one it's game on. Free to wear em out, gaff em up and them club em, clean em, and fillet em. As long as they are atleast 5'5 and 100lbs.

Hell, yes! I was fishing off the Seal Beach Pier about a year ago and these dudes were right next to the piling. One of them snagged my line and started cursing at me. I just leaned over the railing and hit him upside the head with a frozen anchovie. "How do you like me now!?" I yelled at him. He was just a skinny punk and when he saw how big I was he just paddled back to shore and made like a goalie--he got the puck out of there! And just for the record, I used to surf--and fish--and I always gave the piers a wide berth so fellow fishermen had enough room to cast. Piers are for fishing, not surfing.

i think the fisherman has more right to the beach cause we have to pay every year to fish and all they do is buy there surfboards and wax and thats it we pay for ocean, fresh, and a second rod stamp and if u wanna fish for other species that means more money so i saw f the surfers and dont mess with a man and his rod!

Well, I understand that if you're surfing, the conditions can take you close to the pier (current, and being on a wave )...and there are currents next to the pier that make it easier to paddle out (currents tend to change angle and follow the pier) but as a practical matter, if I see sharp objects in the water, I avoid them...I prefer not to be pierced at random To me it's only common sense...someone pokes me with something sharp, I avoid it...and no matter what the issue is, if you're in the water, you are at a disadvantage...also fighting in sand is pretty tiring, it's hard to move, you pretty much have to go to the ground if the first few blows don't end it, and you get sand in nasty places Plus, if you frequent a place, fishermen tend to have sharp things like knives, and I hate replacing tires (at one point that happened to people when the whole "local" thing was big).

That guy had no common sense. Also, the surfers that jump in front of surf fisherman. I remember a surfer did that at the Beachmasters Classic and got snagged by a female Owner Professional. The guy called her some bad words too. He became an instant target.

I fish at Zuma quite a bit, and the surfers there are pretty cool. If they see you're fishing, they don't get in your space--or face. But unfortunately, there are the classless mooks out there who get all territorial and think they own the beach and the waves. You see those kind of guys and you think--where are the Great Whites when you need them?

===

Not too long ago, at Dog Beach, a guy entered the water to my left...had to have seen me casting, yet crossed in front of me to my right before he paddled out...remember my "sharp objects" rule
