Newport Landing Twilight 6/18

Can you say WFO?
the fishing was insane throughout the trip for me. we got there around 5:40 to my supprize there were allready many people out there. juan, james(jstcrzy), james(rreck), and bryson showd up shortly after. luckly alex was able to grab me a spot in the back of the boat after driving for about 45minutes the captain stopped the boat and anchored while he was positioning the boat sean tossed out a swimbait and hook up instantly that was followed by alex. after seeing that i swapped my bait pole for my swimbait pole immdiatly. i cast out my swimbait, within 20 seconds i was hooked up. the fishing remained like this till sun down. after the sun went down i would hook up every two minutes or so. everyone on the boat was hooking up regardless of the position. they were really going wide on the swimbaits and scampis, but to get them to hit it quickly you had to tip it with a strip of squid. youd either get a bite going down or while reeling in the lure. they fish were getting caught left and right. the captain decided to take us back in two hours earlier than usual, since it would take that much time to clean all the fish. by the time we got to the mouth of the bay they were still not finished so they anchored and we did some fishing, several people were tossing strips of squid which resulted in hookups with batrays. most of them took off and didnt stop eventually snapping the line. bryson managed to hook one after fighting it for 5 minutes or so he brought it up the ray was around 5lbs. there were tons of mackerel in the water so i decided to fish for them. they were supprizingly picky. i was tossing a kastmaster i didnt get many bites retrieving it straight but once i fished it yo yo style i began hooking up, that was the only thing that consistantly caught macks. james plucked up a few on the inline spinner and a lip ripper. we fished the bay area for about 45 min then the captain finally took us in. allthough not everybody caught ten fish, all the 12-14" fish that were released made up for it. alex caught 20 sand bass and kept 5. i managed 22 sands and kept 6. a very good day, allthough i didnt think it would be. it was well worth ill probally head out again next week. sorry if this is a messy format im kinda tired just got back from the boat lol.
