New website about WWII Manzanar Internees who snuck out to go trout fishing

In March of 1942, over 120,000 Japanese and Japanese Americans were incarcerated behind barbed wire and armed guards and relocated to 10 interment camps through out the United States. Manzanar in the Owens Valley in California was one of the camp errected as a result of Executive Order 9066. These people were place behind barbed wire and were guarded with a trial or due process of law as written by the 14th Amendment of the Constitution.

I have created a website detailing the events of a few brave souls that snuck out of the camp to escape the anguish of being imprisoned by doing something a regular American citizen took for granted ...like going trout fishing.

Please check out my site out at:

Thank you....

Very interesting, not only historicly but now I want to go check out those creeks more. Does the Manzanar res. still have water in it and if so is it legal to access it for fishing?

Indeed it is legal to fish these creeks today. All the creeks have water running and I believe the DFG still stocks George creek and Shepherd creek. Bairs creek may have some trout but you must hike a little towards Mt. Williamson. Manzanar reservoir is almost full at this time and there is a strong possiblity there could be trout in there as well as the creek.

To access the reservoir, I advised that you check with the rangers at the Manzanar Interpretive center to find out exactly how to get there. It approximately 3/4 mile from the "Monument".

Thanks for checking out my site.

Hey Cory, when's the last time you fished there, at any one of those creeks? I'll be up Mammoth /Yosemite bound in a couple weeks and I'd like to hit at least one of them on the way back.
