Channel Islands Harbor Jetty 6/17/04

Fished the end of the jetty with ESC and adr yesterday. ESC got there before me and hooked a small croaker while he was waiting.

I got there and I decided we needed to move and we headed out to the end of the jetty. When we got there, ESC started fishing with a 3" big hammer swimbait in an anchovy pattern, got hit on the first cast, and landed a legal calico! He caught a second one just a few minutes later and I decided it was time to switch to swimbaits.

I got bit and lost the first one in the kelp. A few minutes later I finally get my first and it's a 2 pound 12 ounce calico!!! Really exciting to catch on 6# line with kelp all over the place.

While I was fighting my big fish, ESC met a guy walking on the jetty (Doug). He happened to have his license with him so ESC offered to let him fish an extra pole and he hooked up with 2 nice sandbass before he had to go.

Todd showed up a little later after he got off work and hooked up. After that it really went wide open and it was limits on calico and sand bass until about 7:30 when the bite shut off. ALL fish were legal. Smallest fish was around 13 inches and all the fish were fat! At one point I landed sand bass on 3 consecutive casts. I've never seen the fishing go off like that in that location with such quality fish. All this in about 3.5 hours.

The weather was nice and the water was calm. Great way to spend an evening. Pics will be posted later!

Sounds like you had fun Jon! Thanks for the report. Catching bass from jetties and harbors is always fun!

Jon,

You don't need a license on a Jetty or breakwater :P

I thought you did need a license on a jetty, just not a pier... Anyone got the regs for that?

jetty is considered a pier, so no license needed.

btw i want to go to this place today, anyone want to come or give me directions?

I think I can go today. What time do you want to go?

Todd, I think you're right. I remember having this discussion before...
