SC Guide Service reports - 6/1/06 (McCloud Res.)

McCloud Reservoir has been fishing well this spring. Last Monday, I took my son and wife out for some fun on the water and we caught a dozen Trout and one nice 22 inch German Brown Trout. We mainly fished up the river arm of the lake catching quite a few Rainbow Trout. Trolling a Seps dodger and a worm worked best. We landed the Brown Trout just around the corner from the boat launch, trolling a F-7 flatfish near the shore at 25 feet. The lake is full of water and fish so come on out a give it try.

SC Guide Service reports - 6/7/06 (McCloud Res.)

Last Saturday, Guy Ives and I fished McCloud Reservoir and caught fish on just about everything we used. We ended up catching and releasing 25 Trout some close to 20 inches and 2 pounds. We mainly fished the river near Hearst Castle. Bouncing bait, flies (Woolley "Booger" Bugger), and trolling a Sep's dodger with a worm trailer were the most effective methods. The reservoir is in great shape as are the Trout. The water level is near perfect so if you looking for a good time this would be it.

SC Guide Service reports - 6/11/06 (McCloud Res.)

The conditions at McCloud Reservoir are the best they have been so far this season.

The water is up and the fish are hungry. Sunday, I landed 20 Trout up near the castle, and all were caught after 1 in the afternoon. Almost any method of fishing will work right now. The Trout are also taking dry flies, as numerous hatches are occuring throughout the day. A lot of the fish are heading up the river to spawn, they are looking fat and healthy. Some of the Trout that I caught and released were easily 20-inches and 2-pounds. The Klamath is still flowing rather high (2990cfs), but it is not muddy coming out of Irongate Dam. One could probably fish it right now but it would be a little fast and high, 2500cfs or less would be better. The river has not been fishable since early December, so the Steelhead and Trout should be hungry and ready to take your offerings.

SC Guide Service reports - 7/3/06 (McCloud Res. & McCloud River)

McCloud Reservoir & McCloud River - July 3rd, 2006

RECORDED: 90 °

FISHING: Excellent

The Vermeere family had quite a day on the Reservoir. When it was all said and done the group landed 25 of 35 Trout. Most of the Trout were of the Rainbow variety.

They did land two other species of Trout, one Brookie and one Brown.

Trolling, jigging and plugs were all successful methods with the hotshot/worm combo landing most of the Trout on the day. We trolled a Sep's kick-dodger and a worm in the morning out near the dam and picked up a few fish, then we jigged a buzzbomb in the same area for a few more( The Brookie and Brown both were caught while jigging).

Then we headed up the McCloud River and finished off the day hooking over 20 nice Trout. Back-trolling a size 50 hotshot/worm combo was the hot method of the day.

I'd like to thank Arnim, Bill, John, Robyn and William for a great day you all
kicked some serious Trout butt!!!!!!

********The Klamath River is finally under 2000cfs (1970), the section below the
Irongate hatchery should now be fishable. The water has been on a steady drop for
the last few days so now is the time, before it drops below 1000cfs.

SC Guide Service reports - 7/10/06 (Klamath River)

Klamath River - July 10th, 2006

RECORDED Temp: 90 °

FISHING: Poor

The Klamath River from the hatchery on down is now at a fishable level. Monday, it fished poorly, due in part to the rapid decrease in flow, the river dropped from 3000cfs to 1000cfs, in less than 10 days.

Monday was a full Moon to boot. I got a report from the hatchery that they released some nice hatchery Steelies that were 24 to 25 inches. It will probabaly be hit and miss until the weather cools off again.

****I will be offering Jetboat fishing trips for fresh ocean run Steelhead on the lower Klamath River starting around August 15 Call for details 530 -905 -0758.

SC Guide Service reports - 8/2/06 (Medicine Lake)

Medicine Lake - August 2nd, 2006

RECORDED Temp: 80 °

FISHING: Excellent

Chelsey the FishSlayer is back!!

Chelsey, Dougand I fished Medicine Lake for the first time this year and it could not have been much better. I'd say anytime you catch and release over 45 Trout, the day could not be much better. Jigging (Buzzbomb), Trolling (Sep's kick-dodger with a worm), Fly fishing (woolley booger bugger) were all fish catching methods. It did not seem to matter, just as long as when you were trolling you went slow, 1mph or less. The lake is full and the trout are very hungry, so now is the time to go!!!!

Medicine Lake - August 4th, 2006

RECORDED Temp: 80 °

FISHING: Excellent

Medicine Lake is hot!!! I fished with some friends of mine on Friday and we caught and released over 60 Trout. The Brook and Rainbow Trout are all over the lake and they are hungry. Jigging a buzzbomb smeared with Pautzke krill paste and trolling a Sep's kick-dodger with a worm trailor, was all it took to land one Trout after another. Trolling slow and jigging around 35 feet are the keys to success. The lake is full and should continue to kick out Trout until winter arrives.

Lake Siskiyou - August 26th, 2006

RECORDED temp: 80 °

FISHING: Good

The fishing is good once you find the fish.
I took Ginger and her Dad on Saturday and they landed 20 Trout (10 to 20 inches) and a few bass (all small).
We caught all the trout in the same spot near one of the creek inlets.
Bait: small Panther Martin spinnners, and flies (woolley booger bugger) worked the best. We did not get on the
water until 8:30am and the fishing was slow. I would suggest starting much ealier, trolling was not effective with the sun on the water. I'm heading to Eagle Lake on
Wednesday with my buddy Guy Ives, we will being fishing there until Saturday.

FISH ON!!!!

Thanks Guy for making this trip better than the last!!!

Fall Salmon season on the Klamath River is just around the corner. Last year, Salmon started showing up in the Hornbrook area around the 15th of September, and lasted about a month. The early part of the season was the best time.

This season will be much different than past seasons. The limit will be two jacks (Salmon under 22 inches) and one Steelhead (over 16 inches). Salmon and Steelhead cards will be required to fish in the river. The cost is about $6.50 for both.

In light of the new restrictions, I will offer a discount for those that booka trip early. Call 530 905 0758. Dates available Sept 20-29, October 2-6, 8-15 Steelhead season will follow directly after the Salmon season (November & December) and if you book a trip early I will offer a discount as well.

I am offering fishing trips to Eagle Lake. The fishing gets better as the weather starts to get worse. Last years trip after Thanksgiving; the average Trout weighed close to four pounds and we caught 35 of them. So if your interested incatching 2 to 8 pound Trout give me a call 530 905 0758

Klamath River - September 27th, 2006

RECORDED Temp: 75 °

FISHING: Excellent

My buddies Joe and LJ had a great day on the river today. We landed 14 Salmon and one Steelhead. We caught all the fish in the upper part of the river. Bouncing roe
and back trolling k-15 kwikfish worked great
. The first couple of fish we landed with plugs including the Steelhead, the rest were caught bouncing roe. We went 14 for 16 on the Salmon and had numerous grabs that did not stick.

More fish are moving up each day so the fishing should only get better!!

RECORDED: 75 °

What can you saw about landing 27 Salmon in one day? Damn what a day!!Barry, Guy and I left the river late this afternoon and the Salmon were still biting, we had to leave because our arms got tired; ... Not really, it was just late and time to go home! Kwikfish and roe did the trick. We drifted in Guy's boat from the Hatchery to the Fishhook and caught fish in everyhole.

The weather is perfect and the bite is on, so now is the time to get out and go!!!

Lake Siskiyou - September 30th, 2006

RECORDED: 80 °

FISHING: Excellent

I took a day off from the river and hit the lake with Conner to checkout the Trout fishing. It was one after another from 9:30 until we left at 2:30. We stopped
counting at 30
. All I did was troll two Seps dodgers with rubber worms.

I figured they were hitting the real thing so well why not try fake worms. The Trout did not care at all. Most were of the Trout were 12 to 16 inches, but we did land some that were 20-inches or better.

I will be back on the river for the next three days, but I do have some openings during the week.

Klamath River - October 1st, 2006

RECORDED: 78 °

FISHING: Excellent

I fished with Gordon and Wayne again today and we landed 9 of 13 Salmon. We got off the water at 12 noon, but the bite seemed to be picking up as the day went on. The morning started out a bit a slow, as we only hooked 2 Salmon (K-15 Kwikfish, Roe), but as noon approached the bite started to heat up. We hooked up 11 Salmon, landing 7 of them, all in the last 90 minutes we fished.

The water is back up again so that should really get the fish moving up to the Hatchery.

Current SC Guide Service News:

****I have the 5th thru the 7th of this week available (TUES, WED, THUR)

***Steelhead season will follow directly after the Salmon season (November & December)

***I am offering fishing trips to Eagle Lake. The fishing gets better as the weather starts to get worse. Klamath River - October 2nd, 2006

RECORDED: 75 °

FISHING: Excellent

On Monday, I fished my buddies Jim, Keith, and Matt and they landed 6 out of 12 Salmon. Five of the six Salmon weighed over 18 pounds, and 3 of those were over 20 pounds. Jim landed the hog of the day a nice big 25 pound buck. (See the photo)

K-15 kwikfish and Roe were the baits of choice. I am fishing the section of river from the Hatchery to Fishhook it has been the most productive!
