Surf Fishing Derby/ Get Together

I am considering putting a surf fishing contest/ get together for this coming Saturday (7-22) or Saturday (7-22).

Please take the poll and reply with some ideas:

Two or three angler teams, open species, a certain species, line requirement, artificials only etc...?

Jackpot: How much, $5? Total 5 fish length? 1 largest?

Which county? Los Angeles, Orange, Ventura, San Diego?

I chose Shovel Nose Guitarfish (6# test max) because it is very challenging landing a SNGF on light tackle and they are all over the beach at this time.
Moreover, this derby will allow us to find some of the stronger 6# line manufacturers.
As far as location, the Santa Monica Bay area is filled with SNGF at this time. Having a $5 J.P. would make for a friendly competition. Cut/ live bait should be allowed, since we are targeting a shark specie.

Since it is a shark specie contest, I think a single largest fish should determine the winner. I would like it to be a two man team (to help with landing of a fish). However, single participant are welcomed.

I can't make it Saturday, but I chose SNGF. Location could be the power plant in Oxnard. If it's running you'd have yourselves an awesome day of fishing!

Im not sure if I can make it. Short notice and all. Sounds like fun. I did land a 52" 19# on 10# test last year from the surf.

Individual competion, no team. Open species, total combine weigh in for winner. One monster fish can take it all, or couple nice sized corbinas can take it. Im sure several of us has a scale. Depending on number on entries, i would start at @ $20.00 for about 5 entries or less. $15.00 each for 10 entries and up.. First place takes 70% of pot and second place takes 30%..

Sinjin, you have a good following. Think of the possibilties! You can convince people about a surffishng Circuit. Once, or twice a month competition, seasonal, break it down to 3 season circuit tournments throughout the one year. 4 months each season. No cash prizes, just friendly competition and respect. Some t-shirts and trophies of course. Entries will have there fish count and total weight recorded throughout the tournment on a fishing forum like this one..Maybe some dues from the contestants for circuit/ tournament necessities. We can have companies and retails sponser the circuit. Like Luckycraft! The possibilities!!
