Hookup Get together 06/13/04

First of all, I'd like to thank Jon and James for putting this all together and making this a momentous trip. It fell nothing short of a blast, and I think everyone had a great time. I can't wait to do this again! Great prizes, great fishing, great boat/crew, great food, great get together! It was also nice meeting everyone, most people for the first time. I had a decent bite going pretty much all day just like everyone else. What was great was that even the people with less skill and didn't quite know what they were doing (me one of them) were hooking up one after another, and that made me very happy. I caught 8 sand bass to 3.3 pounds (6 legal, 6 kept, 2 released), 9 calicos to 2 pounds (4 legal, 0 kept, 9 released), and about 14 mackeral to 1.25 pounds (2 kept, 12 released). That wide open bite on calicos and mackeral at the very end was so fun I am ready to go back right now! All my sand bass were caught on anchovies on the bottom, and all my calicos were caught on flylined anchovies and sardines. I thought that was pretty weird that the sand bass wouldn't hit the sardines for me, but as soon as I switched to the anchovies, I got into a few wide open bites. I'll post some pics I took tomorrow, too tired tonight. Post your report so we can see how you did!

I had a great time on the boat. I caught the first legal barracuda and had a blast. The crew did a good job and though the fishing was slow Capt. Smelt did a good job putting us on fish.

BTW Bryson, I din't know you were a pilot until I registered here. Bummer, I went to Embry-Riddle and I'm a flight instructor (CFI/II). Would have been cool to talk planes with you. Drop me a line of you'r eever interested in just yakking about flying careers.

Hey Marcus! I don't quite remember who you are. I don't believe I met you. Which Embry-Riddle campus did you go to? I'm going to the Prescott, AZ campus this August for 4 years, then go back for my Master's degree after I secure a job to build up hours. That's very impressive that you are a CFI/II. Did you earn that through ERAU? I'm not sure if I want to become a CFI because I know a lot of CFI's who can't get hired by the airlines, yet have thousands of ME hours. What do you think? Are you currently instructing? Which airport?
