Let me work some of my "magic" Harold. I might be able to hook something up for you before you go. At the very least a cheaper rate witha reputable capt. or guide.

Hey Rookie, I grew up in Florida, Tampa, St. Pete area and I pulled my 5th, wheel down to Key west for 3 months a few years back, I love the fishing down there because of the varity. If u have Direct tv the Florida Fish Report is on channel 632 Sat. morning from 7:00 thru 8:30 am. and on Thurs. nite.
This morning report from Datona Beach said, spotted seatrout before dawn at lighted piers on live shrimp (sold at every tackle shop in Florida) or 5" bass assassins. After dawn, dark green jigs and chartreuse swim baits & top water plugs. Site cast to red fish using fresh shimp, half dollar size craps or cut lady fish. Corbia, soft baits, charreuse tube lure, chartreuse jigs. This program has a fairly active message board, u can fine it at sunsportstv.com You should sign on and get someone local to help plan your trip.
If you have a long handle net you can catch delicious blue crabs along any seawall in Florida at night, just take a flash lite when u spot one, present a peice on cut bait 2 them, after they grab it ease them up and slide the net under them. yum! Have a Great time.

Thanks for the tip Kabong! I actually extended the trip from July 13-20. We are planning to do a chartered trip and my brother-in-laws neighbor has a boat he will lend me to do some freshwater fishing. What should I bring with me?

Fresh water is mostly LMB, crappy, brime, large chanel and mud cats any good bass outfit should be fine. Inshore saltwater can put u on 20-30 lb red fish that pull hard a medium bait caster would be a good choice. Spotted seatrout are also know as weakfish because they don't put up much fight, a lite spinner is fine. Off shore salt water, Dorado, they call them dolphin, limit 10 must be 20", yft & kingfish to 30 lb and more, med. bait caster. On the wrecks, big amber jacks and gruoper these fish pull HARD and you will want at lease a 40-60 outfit if u target these fish. A big grouper feels like your trying 2 pull up the bottom they are incredibly strong fish. I'm jealous just thinking about it. I'd try that message board for a referal for your charter or 3/4 day, Any bridge can put you on sheephead ( black & white down there) in the daytime and Snook at night. With a head lamp u can gig flounder, ect on the flats at night, big fun, but be carefull of sting rays when ever walking in the water, hurts like hell.
Have a great trip!!

Hey Local Rookie I'm watching the Florida fish report on the sun channel. The Datona Bch report, Off shore: Red snapper on spawn WFO bite average weight 10lbs, in 200 ft on wreaks and stucture with live or cut bait for a good mix of good size grouper and yellow eye snapper. Best dolphine (dorado) fishing in many years to 35 lbs within 300 yards of weed line.
Inshore: Major redfish bite to 40 lbs, fish the outside of bars, pre dawn to 2 hours after with DOA shrimp on 1/4 oz jighead for a good mix with big sea trout. The fishing sounds great. Should be a great trip, Remember to take your camera.

Just seen where Tony is reporting Red snappers on the Corolmar in Oxnard. The red snapper in Florida are a completely differant species, They are wide and flat and great fighters. A very popular sportfishing target fish and a blast to catch.

You're right Alan. Actual "Red Snapper" is a true 'snapper' though it's actual common name is " Northern Red Snapper" if I remember correctly. What I was reporting in the Coroloma report is what is commonly referred to as Pacific Red Snapper, but isn't a snapper species at all, but a rock fish species with the actual common name being the " Shortspine Thornyhead Rockfish" or some people call them shortspines and are found more south but occasionally this far north.
We tend to just call them Pacific Red Snapper, thought they're not a snapper.
Here's the part that urks the heck out of me...... the fish that most California anglers call red snapper or "reds" are neither of the two I've mentioned......the fish in my avatar and the fish in Yong's(Aftahours)avatar are " Vermillion Rockfish", but people still want to call them "Red Snapper"...they're not even remotely close to the first two species and especially not close to the Northern Red Snapper which is a true snapper, like a Mutton Snapper which is very common on the East Coast and Gulf of MEx.
California is the absolute worst when it comes to anglers not calling fish by their actual common name. Everyone wants to call them what they want and that can sometimes make the fish counts very inaccurate. On the East Coast you find anglers calling fish by their true common name more often than none...bugs me that we here in Cali don't do that....I don't why it bugs me, it just does.
Harold,
you'll be able to hook up on tons of Red Snapper fishing inshore reefs and wrecks while you're in Florida...you'll have fun.
BTW, I have a call into some one at Gaff Magazine to try to give me a recommendation for a charter for you.

Thanks Tony,I knew that you probilly knew that. When I first started fishing Ca. I'd see red snappers in the counts of boats i'd been on and think I didn't see any. Then one time when I pulled in a big red rock fish the deck hand said nice red snapper. it has always bugged me too. I just wanted Harold 2 know if he get into 10 lbs "true" Red snapper he's in for some real fishing fun.
On the other hand, the pink snappers are about the same everywhere, when they are schoolie size they'er cruising around everywhere and will gobble up anything you waggle in their face, but after they get on the nesting bed its hard to get anything in their mouth.

It was 4 pm. pst, glad I checked. Central East Coast Report
Offshore report;
They said that a three foot swell from the storm had slowed down fishing but it should be down by the weekend.
Anglers who braved the chop were rewarded with a wide open dolphin bite next to weed line trolling live bait and feathers and lures.
Red snapper average 10lbs but up to 41lbs with black grouper also mangrove snapper begining to spawn in 80' to 240' over stucture, live and cut bait.
Inshore report;
Good kingfish bite slow trolling live bait off the beaches.
Big Jacks are in, average 20lbs up to 40lbs sight casting top water plugs.
Big snook for C&R off beaches near inlets look for stucture, DOA bait busters & glow shrimp.
Red hot redfish bite to 30lbs on the edges of ouster bed just before sun-up, live shimp, cut mullet and lady fish.
Everbody said that when the water flattens out the fishing should be flat out amazing.
Dude, you are going to see alot of weird fishing rigs & pre-rigged set-ups, with wire and beads and flotes and stuff. I've always wondered how some of that stuff would work out here in our bays, surf and piers. They don't cost much, maybe you could bring a couple back to try out.
Good Luck and have an amazing trip.
