Central CA Ocean Fishing Update 6/15/06
Robert Gallia said the water was flat and calm Saturday and Sunday. The
Berkeley salmon fishing fleet experienced some of the best mooching and
trolling since the season started, as all boats fishing the Pt. Reyes
area scored limits for the seventh day in a row. The salmon have been
holding in a large area of sardines and anchovies located in 40 fathoms
of dark water, northwest of the Pt. Reyes lighthouse. Like clockwork,
the salmon have been feeding in the morning, taking a break before noon,
then feeding again in the afternoon. The best action was reported
between 40 and 60 pulls. All skippers reported multiple hookups, with
many in the 20-pound class. Dennis Cordova of Concord was aboard the El
Dorado and landed a limit of salmon weighing over 50 pounds. He used a
custom tied fly behind a flasher in 60 pulls. For more information,

Diana Nunez also reported an outstanding
weekend for salmon mooching. On Saturday morning the New Golden Eye and
the Golden Eye 2000 went to Pt. Reyes and located a massive area of
salmon feeding on anchovies. The New Golden Eye scored 64 early limits
of salmon up to 20 pounds, and the Golden Eye 2000 caught 28 early
limits weighing up to 36 pounds.
The hot bite continued on Sunday in the Pt. Reyes area. The New Golden
Eye with Capt. Trung Vo had limits by 11 a.m. as 18 anglers caught 36
king salmon weighing up to 33 pounds. The Golden Eye 2000 with Capt.
Quan Vo had 68 salmon for 34 anglers weighing up to 28 pounds.
