Central Coast Area Ocean Fishing Reports 6/1/06
Craig Stone of Emeryville Sportfishing said the Bay Area salmon fleet
has enjoyed excellent action the last few days fishing from Duxbury Reef
to just above Point Reyes. Boats have been scoring near limits to limits
of salmon averaging 8-10 pounds, with a lot of larger fish taken up to
25 pounds. Out of Emeryville on Tuesday, the New Seeker reported in with
limits of salmon to 22 pounds for their 18 anglers aboard. All boats
have been trolling with anchovies.
Robert Gallia said salmon fishing throughout the Memorial Day weekend
was affected by windy conditions along the coast, which prevented most
of the Berkeley skippers from getting outside the protection of the
coastal areas until Monday. As the winds eased off, early Monday morning
the Berkeley fleet converged on an area of feed discovered late Sunday
afternoon by Gallia. The area, located between the North Islands and Pt.
Reyes in 300 feet of water, was loaded with sardines feeding on krill at
the surface.
Action was very good in the morning, and at the end of the day the
combined scores averaged well over a fish per rod to limits. Weather is
expected to be good through Wednesday.
