PV report

Got in the water around 7am. Surf was a bit up and there was a 2-3 swell but once the sun came out conditions were nice. I caught 5 Calico Bass with the smallest being 14'' and the biggest 4lbs. Got out of the water by 10am. I saw lots of huge smelt try to eat my 5'' swimbait and also saw some BIG perch swimming around the kelp.

Great report as always. Seems like you're always on the fish! Thanks for the report.

I launched my yak from Cabrillo beach and paddled down the PV coast. The Calico bass fishing in this area should explode in about 2 or 3 weeks and I can't wait
For anyone who trys to launch a kayak or float tube from the surf at any beach should have all there gear tied down. I saw another fishermen get pushed off his yak when trying to launch. He did not have his gear tied down but was VERY lucky that the kayak didn't flip over. If it did flip over his fishing day would have been over.

I think I might go to Cabrillo in the next couple weeks, might even float tube because I'll be getting one once school gets out. Is fishing off the rocks any good for calico or do you need a kayak or float tube.

You can catch them from the rocks but it's a lot harder. You'll lose a bunch of tackle in the rocks. I feel that it's way easier to catch fish from the tube or yak. I know that If I took some ghost shrimp out there I could catch all the fish I want, mainly perch, cabezon, sheephead, smelt, opaleye, and rockfish.
