Jewel Lake 5/29/04, with pics

Stats:
Total Fish Caught: 9, rainbow trout
Weather: 50's, over cast, with a little wind, when the wind was at a hault and the sun was out it was very pleasant and had a hot neck!
Water Temperature: 50's
Location: Jewel Lake
Bait: Worms, Salmon Eggs, Power Bait

I got up at about 6:45am this morning and got my stuff ready. We were going fishing withe some friends. I brought my fly fishing setup and my spinning rod. They came and picked us up at 8 and we headed down to the lake. Right when we got there, we saw a ton of smaller bows jumping like crazy in this one area. They were going as a school back and forth along the bank eating a ton of bugs that were out. I am not sure what the hatch was, but there was a lot! Where I wanted to fish already had some people in it, so I waited a while until they gave the spot up. The man that was there before us gave us his worms since he had his limit(the trout were way to small to keep). There was an occasional bigger fish in the lake that we could see but what people were keeping was way to small. :frown:

I put on a leader about 15" long with some slipshot and put on a worm. Once the school got to us, they would bite like crazy it was a lot of fun. I got a few takes on the surface with dries but nothing stayed on. I caught fish on power bait, worms, and salmon eggs. After that we headed to some lakes on base and did not catch any fish. We saw a bunch of fish in this one part of the lake but fishing was prohibited in that spot. I also took some pictures at the lakes on base, they are the last 2 photos. Here are some pictures of the trip:

Total Fish for me: 5, with a ton of bites and a few small takes.
Total Fish for my brother: 2 with some bites
Total Fish for a friend we went with: 2 with some bites

A fun outing today, that lake is very fun so far and I want to try and get out in my float tube sometime!

Yeah it is, glad to get my first few reports up!

Note, the fish is not just sitting in gravel, it is in water so its not just breathing up the gravel and dirt into it's gills.

Hey Geoff, I'm glad to see you're starting to make it out fishing now! I bet you're really going to love the fishing up there. I'm looking forward to seeing some BIG fish!
