Salt Creek - IL - Not too shabby! 5/28/04 - photos

What a difference one week makes!

STATS
---------
Temps - low 70's
Water Temps - high 60's, low 70's
Wind - MPH - 0-5 mph
USGS - 6.2ft -- - - 180CFS
Number of fish caught - 6 in 3.5hrs (betweem 2 of us)
Total number of anglers out today - (5-6 depending on time)

I met JUG at the creek at 4ish, and we start fishing right then. I suggested that we should try some carp'n which worked. The creek really fell almost back to normal level after last weeks rains. here are some photos for comparison.......

NORMAL

FLOOD

So we start fishing at 4ish. We mainky fished in front of the lot today, didn't bother going to the dam. I tried over at the bend by the offices, but saw no action.

We were both carping and doing some regular fishing at the same time. The baits mainly in use for today were 2" twisters (chartreuse) and a 2" Matzuo jerk minnow (natural minnow color)

I landed 3 bass (biggest 10"), one on the twister, two on the minnow. Mike was mainly carping and he caught a fine dandy carp for the creek, about 5-6lbs, somewhere around 2ft long. The panfish seemed to turn on at around 6:15ish, but their hot bite only lasted for 1 minute....lol

For some reason, I have yet to catch any Smallmouth Bass in this creek. The smallies are found in bigger numbers than the largemouths. Otherwise, I'll take any fish from here.

Here are the photos................Some Carp action

All this action started right when I told Mike we should move to a new spot. as a coincidence, I see Mike's $120 combo start swimming off into the creek....lol (happened at the same time I'm talking). I guess Mike owes me but he fought it for about 5 mins.

Mike fighting the carp for about 5mins, on his 6ft Croix rod w/ 8lb line.

Telling mike how to hold a Carp from its gill-plate (he honestly never holds fish like that)

Me, holding the carp for Mike - about 5-6lbs (average for the creek)

Here's photos from the Bass action........

look like a clown

Same fish as above

Greenie - bite lasted for only 1 min

Presentation Picks

bait used for carp - a simple bread-ball (white bread)

Bassin'

I'll be able to get out each day this weekend for about an hour; when not studying for finals. I'll have to bring some soggy white bread and my Berkley Catfish dough. This "rough fishing" can be fun if you're looking to waste some time.

TOTALS
---------
Drew - 3 LM. Bass, 2 Sunfish
Mike - 1 Carp

We obviously got the quality today!
