Sierras 5/20 - 5/23

My girlfriend and I went up to the sierras from thursday - sunday. We drove up wednesday night and slept a few hours in a parking lot in Bishop before driving up the mountain.

Our first stop was rock creek lake. We got there just after sunrise and it was amazing. The water was flat and the weather was awesome. My girlfriend caught a nice brook trout and rainbow. But at around 8am the wind came up and we got blown off the lake.

We decided to drive up to June lake where we were staying and check out the cabin. We got there and the wind wasn't too bad so we decided to tube Silver lake until we could check in. We got out there and it was SLOW. And on top of that, a few minutes later the wind caught up with us and we had to pack it up and go check in to the cabin.

After we get settled in, I needed to catch a fish so we went down to rush creek and caught a few fish for dinner.

The next day we fished Lee Vining creek which was wide open on rainbows. That's where I caught my biggest fish of the weekend which weighed in at 1 pound 5 ounces. After we finished up there, we went back to the cabin for lunch and then blew up the raft for some trolling on Gull Lake. We trolled for about 45 minutes for nothing so we decided to baitfish and finished off our limit over the next hour and a half.

Saturday, my girlfriend wanted to relax at the cabin so I met up with rreck and his buddy. We fished Sabrina for a few little rainbows and then the creek below Sabrina for some nice rainbows and a couple browns. After that we went to the south fork of Bishop creek and it was wide open on the stockers. It was great fishing with rreck (James) and his buddy Juan. They are great guys and I had a lot of fun. Good to meet you both!

Sunday morning we packed up our stuff, checked out, and went to do some sightseeing before the long drive home. We checked out Mono lake, lundy, and the virginia lakes. While we were at the virginia lakes, we saw people hiking up the side of the mountain and skiing down the face of the cliff!!! It was crazy!

Anyway, it was a great trip and I'm really looking forward to going back again soon when the big alpers are getting stocked again!

Sounds like you had a fun trip! Looks like a beautiful place. June lake and Lake Sabrina look like interesting places to fish.

Wahoo!, glad to hear you had a good time. I'm heading up to Mammoth Lakes Friday morning. I'll be trying Crowley for the first time saturday and then the rest of the time I'll be on one of the creeks or one of the other lakes. It's fun to just go wherever you feel like going. There's so many options.........
Those were great pics. Makes me want to go right now.

Nice Pics & Report

Wahoo!,

Nice pictures. All that snow reminds me why I visit Sabrina at the end of summer. Hiked to the lakes above Sabrina last Sept.

We're heading out for 2-weeks (1st 1/2 of June) ... let ya know how it pans out.

Welcome to the board PONTOON and Kens!

PONTOON, it's good to hear from you! I hope you have a good time up there. It looks like they are stocking the alpers now so you'll have a good shot at a nice fish. Have a safe trip and let us know how you do!

Kens, the weather actually wasn't too cold. Sabrina was windy off an on so it was a little chilly, but I love the snow. Besides, it makes for good pictures!
