Small Irons in chrome
KastMaster Chrome and blue
4" to 5" Swimbaits in multiple colors
Some Jigging spoon that looks like a squid
Start off fishing the end of jetty with small irons. Didn't get a single hit, switched to this yo'uzi lure that looks like squid on one side and smelt on the other. First cast I caught a fish(10" calico), second cast I get nailed hard and loose the fish in the rocks. Next tried swimbaits but didn't have any luck with them. Switch to a kastmaster spoon and proceded to catch a bunch of small calico's (6" to 10"), tried tossing the irons again hoping for a larger calico but no luck. The waves started pickin up and I was getting wet, I moved halfway down the jetty and found a gap in the kelp. Tossed the kastmaster and dragged it across the sand bottom, next thing i know my drag is peelling out of my spinning reel. Managed to get the fish back to jetty, it was nice size halibut. I had it on a rock and went to get my measuring tape and it managed to kick itself off the rock. So I didn't know if it was legal or not but sure seem damn close. I switch rods and started tossing small irons, on the second cast. I feel something hit on the way down. Felt like small fish so I start reeling in, next thing I know my rod gets nailed. Thats when my cheap berkley rod decides that it would be good idea for the reel seat to fail, and my millionaire goes tumbliing into the water! After bumbling around, I manager to get the line back in, attached to the iron is a large smelt with his head barely attached to his body. Tossed kastermaster around for a while more, for nothing.
Total count:
~6 Small Calico's (6" to 10")
~19" halibut
