Cool Float Tubing/boating Newport Harbor:2nd Get Together

Alright everyone..... The 2nd Hook Up fishing club for teens get together will be in Newport Bay either June 5 or 6. We need you to tell us which date is better for you. We will be fishing in a certain area(look below for pics. and maps). This is supposed to be a GREAT place to fish. I encourage all of you to go. IT WILL BE AMAZING!! You can either float tube, raft, kayak, boat, or any floatation device you have. Nick and I will be float tubing.

Directions and Place
The place is a little tricky to find, so i will post some pictures and directions. The spot we will be launching is from a dock. The dock does not have an exact name, but we are going to put up BIG, TALL BALLOONS so you can find it easily.

This is a map of how to get to newport landing sportfishing. This is NOT where we will be fishing, but this is just a reference to give you idea how to get there. Remember, look for balloons. Here is the address of Newport Landing if you want to type it in on mapquest or something:

309 Palm - Suite A
Balboa, CA
92661

Here is an arieal view of the harbor. The red circle in the bottom right hand corner is where we will be fishing. Look around that area, and you will see us.

heres a list of the species that inhabit the bay:
stripers, spotted bay bass, calico bass, sandbass, wsb, halibut, baracuda, opleye, various perch, mackerel, wrase, and bat rays are just a few to name.

tackle recomendations:
rod: light to medium action, make sure its something with backbone.
reel: make sure you have something with a smooth drag some of the fish out here fight real hard
line: 6-12lb test is ideal. you can go lighter ill be using 2lb test
baits: mussel, squid, chovies, ghost shrimp all preform well
lures: grubs, spoons & swimbaits
terminal tackle: #6hooks will work almost allround for everything bring a few #10s as well just incase the perch and wrase are around. my hook of choice is the owner mosquito. bring some split shots and egg sinkers up to 1/2 if nessicary. i havent had to use ne thing heavier than a 1/4 though. sabikis might be a good idea for catching smelt.
