72nd St. Jetty 5/16

Fished from 4:30 to about 6:30 P.M. the wind wasen't too bad but there was a pretty strong current. First started to use whole pieces of ghost shrimp but everytime you would cast the bait would fall off, so then i switched to a grub but didn't get any takers. Then I decided to use smaller pieces of ghost shrimp and in about a minute a had one a small yellowfin croaker about 11". Then after about 3 missed fish I hook up to a nice 10" BSP, fattie. Then about 20 minutes later I hook into to something heavy thought I had the bottom but after a short fight I had a nice 18" sand shark and that was it for the day. I would say it was fairly good next time I'm going to use lug worms with small hooks probably won't miss so many fish.

Thanks for the report. Let me know how the lugworms work. I've never tried them before.

I've fished that spot a lot and ghost shrimp is the way to go. Small hooks, 4-6lb line and a carolina rigged shrimp. Both sides of the jetty are really good.

Nah you get them at Norm's on PCH and Seal Beach Blvd. they're just barely alive. But I guess the ones at the petshop would probably work too.

The ones at Norms barely move or fresh dead. If they are dead tell Juan and he'll give two cartons for the price of one. Plus the ones they sell are HUGE, like baby lobsters. The smaller GS are better. I haven't bought ghost shrimp in about 3 years. I just pump my own for free

i usually split shot the shrimp or i fish them under a bobber. when i split shot i use the smallest split shot i can find i pinch that 18" from the hook. my hook of choice is a #10owner mosquito, i havent had a chance to try out the newer red hooks, i just bought some and will probally try them out this weekend. i cast out the bait into a likely zone and wait 15 seconds if i dont get hit i begin retriving the bait very very slowly. when fishing the bobber i usually do this in the fall (sept-early dec). i attach a thill bobber, not sure the model ill get a pick. i use the same hook. when i set this up i usually only use one small shot so the bobber lies flat when i get a bite itll go up. i usually fish this around weedbeds. the length from the hook to the bobber should be 2-4 feet depending on were the fish are. i fish this rig dead still. for winter time bluegill i use the shotting technique.

this isnt the exact bobber i use but its the closest one i can find.
