Catfish fishing help!

Hey im probably going catfish fishing w/ nick on a boat in irvine next weekend, and Ive never been before. I was just wondering if 4 lb test will produce more hits that 12 lb test? Im probably gonna fly-line mackerel. What size hooks should i use? Any other tips would help. Thanks.

well ive got extra tackle if ya need ne o yea and ill let ya spool up on some of my cuda if ya want. i wouldnt use normal 4lb test in the area were gonna be fishing lots of weeds and brush.

I recomend using 8lb pound line. I've caught quiet a few 20+ pound catfish on 8 and had no problems. I know Irvine has big catfish but they are not as line shy as trout.
