Question Calicos in Alamitos Bay?

Does anyone know if you can catch Calico in the bay. I've notice the bite that is going on right now out there and I was wondering if they are in the bay.

Alamitos Bay has them but most are short. Probably 90 percent of them are short. Newport Bay is the best Bay/harbor to catch them. Fish around the coast guard launch and you catch them. You'll get a occasional big one there and around the jetty.

yes alamitos bay has short calicos. To catch them just use the typical bay lures; 3'' grubs, 3'' swimbaits, and 3'' crankbaits. Fish near structure like bridges, pilings, docks, etc. Calicos like to suspend off the bottom or hang near the surface so don't drag the lures on the bottom or else you'll catch spotted bay bass and sand bass but that's not bad either.

Calico's are usually a by product catch. Not too many of them. Most of the fish they are catching are off of the horshoe right now. Good distance from alamitos.
