Back to Jenk's then the Sierras
I am going back to Jenk's Lake this Saturday morning to teach a buddy of mine to float tube before we head up to Bishop next weekend. I have fished this lake from the dock but not a tube, anybody launched here before?
Also I have fished every body of water in the Sierras but never "Tubed" on any of them before...anybody have any pointers? I am thinking of smaller lakes like "Intake 2" or I will take suggestions.

Sierra tuber
Hi! I have floated all over the Sierras, for a beginning tuber a really great spot is Rock Creek Lake. Sandy shore, benches near shore to suit up on, easy footing and very low fishing traffic. I caught a 6+ pounder there myself last year just trolling an olive matuka on a spinning rod during the first week of June. Water was very cold but the weather was gorgeous. If you've never been there I can send some photos if you email me.

Rock Creek lake sounds good. How do you get there? I tubed twin lakes in mammoth last year and that was a lot of fun. That's the only one I've tubed though. I've heard that North lake is great for tubing, but I think the road to it is still closed. I'm planning on tubing Gull, Silver, Sabrina, Intake 2, and maybe Rock Creek lake while I'm there this weekend.

Yea, what he said...by the way Ginny, if I lived in Vegas the only reason I would ever leave would be to go fishing.

From Bishop head north on #395 about 25 miles to "Toms Place". Turn left and go 9 miles. Rock Creek lake will be on your left. It was still closed due to snow when I was up there and you had to hike in to fish it. There was very little ice on the Lake from what I could see.

Rock Creek lake turnoff is closer to Bishop than the turnoff for Convict but it looks like a longer drive and a steeper climb, is it? I am trying to squeeze as much fishing time out of this trip as possible and do not want to spend more time in the car than I have to.

I'm not sure about the drive, but I think rock creek lake would be more fun to float tube than convict. Convict is a pretty big lake and it could be hard to find fish in there from a tube. I'll be driving up tonight so I'll give you a call and figure out what time to meet up on saturday.

On convict I plan on kicking over to the inlet where one of the creeks comes in, there will be fish enough there I think. If I can park in the rear of the campground at Rock Creek Lake I will launch from there and fish the inlet again. It has been my experience that trout will collect near moving water where there is more food and oxygen, it also feels like home to the DFG fish because the tanks in a hatchery all have moving water coming in over a small water fall. I might hit some deep water on Convict and Sabrina only to try and score a Brown...or two.
