SF/San Pablo Bay Report 4/6/06
The bays
San Francisco: The rain feeds the mud-filled streams and charges the
cities of sewers and the streams and sewers feed the Main and South
bays, and they show it. By now, we should be well into the first days of
the live-bait season. For the foreseeable future, the bays are too dirty
for any such joyful madness. Oyster Point Bait and Tackle's Mike Routson
swears there's plenty of bait out there, and halibut too. And he also
swears the halibut can't be caught, for all the murkiness of the bay.
The only catches of note this week are of bass (off Candlestick and
Coyote points) and jacksmelt from the Burlingame shoreline. Moving on
... You have to go back to the weekend to find it, because of the
weather since, but the sturgeon fishing is out and out fantastic in San
Pablo, in the fabled Sturgeon Triangle (Pumphouse to Buoy 5 to China
Camp). Since, the weather has kept boats off the water and even made it
tough for the shoreliners at China Camp and McNear's Pier. When the
weather allows, it should be game on. A couple of party and several
charter boats leaving from San Rafael's Loch Lomond Harbor now: info,
