Surf Fishing Seminar

April 12 Surf Fishing Seminar at Fisherman's Hardware in Long Beach. Time is from 7-9:00 PM. Speakers will be Ronnie Kovach and Nanette Smith. The store always has good deals going on and offer store discounts the day of the seminars. I attended one of Kovach's seminars at the Fred Hall Show at Long Beach and found him to be very informative, at least I think it was him. There's a bar with limited food right next door to wet your whistle before or after the event.

Wait, now I'm not sure of the location. I got the info. from Fishrap, a newspaper, and they have the seminar in two different locations. One is Long Beach, the other is Huntington Beach.

Rich as soon as you can, let me know when the Long Beach one is taking place for sure and we can make a quick HookUp get together out of it.

We'll just make a list of names in your first post of people who say they want to go.

Oh god not Ronney Kovach. I fished with that guy and he was rather annoying. Since he is sponsored by Berkley he is going to push gulp really hard.

Hmmm, I wonder what I could learn from Ronnie. I have read his books growing up and really didn't learn too much from his books. As far as surf fishing, I am sure some of us can teach him more and than he can teach us.

Bottom line is this: I don't care how good any of us are in the surf; all that could come out of going to this Seminar is "gaining more knowledge" and learning someone elses technique which is not invaluable, but very valuable.

That was funny. The add in the paper says Huntington Beach, but the Events Section says Long Beach. I'll call tomorrow and see. Right now I'm the 5% who are sick.

Hmmm. I am going to be stubborn and say NO!
Ronnie Kovach has a wealth of fishing knowledge but how often has he fished the surf in recent years? More over, I have seen the techniques he utilizes on his show and it is old and of the past. Although his ways may catch fish, there are new and better ways today.

Besides, he most likely going to promote all the Gulp stuff from Berkley.

Well, techniques don't expire, they don't go out of style. New one's may come about but the old one's don't stop working.

When we as anglers begin to get to arrogant about our ways and think that we're all that...that's when we begin to slip, IMO ( I have to catch myself sometimes). Learning someone elses techniques; whether they be to our liking or not, is smart and valuable even if we don't utilize it. There's nothing that could be considered a waste of time if it consists of gaining knowledge especially in a sport where things change as rapidly as they do in this particular sport.

Plus we're not Ronnie...we don't know how often he personally fishes the surf so we shouldn't make that assuption that he's "out dated" (though his a$$ is gettin' old ). I'm not trying to stick up for him because I really don't know him , I'm just being practical and fair.

Plus maybe he'll give away free Gulp bait....even though I'm not crazy about it.
