According to this DFG link - Pike

There were 13632 pike taken from the lake and killed in 2003. That leads me to believe there are still some in there. It has proven very difficult for the DFG to erradicate them and judging by the number taken, there are probably many that were missed.

I understand why the DFG wants them removed from certain lakes to keep them from spreading but they are a Sport fish and should be allowed somewhere right? In the Eastern Sierras there are lakes that do not attach to any other body of water, why cant they stock them there???

theyre afraid if there were an accesable bunch of pike people would stock them theirselves into other bodies of water. there have been many cases of this up in Alaska.

but thats different. those ponds probobly didnt have fish in them. Also with the pike, there is a chance that they can be moved from lake davis into another lake, which would inturn harm a native species or a highly prized fish.

btw do you guys think pike would get to be record size if they were legal in California?

I was just saying that people do seem to love moving fish around...also in MOST Eastern Sierra waters there is no sutch thing as a native fish. Every Rainbow, Brown and Brookie was planted or is the offspring of planted fish. Only the Golden Trout and a type of Chub just above Mono lake are native spicies, every body of water in the Eastern Sierra drained into Owens lake and dried up in the summer until 50 years ago so who is to say that the Planted trout are more prized than a 30 pound Pike or Muskie. I LOVE trout fishing but I would be willing to sacrifice a lake or two if they had Pike or Muskie in them.

same here.

cst: theres a change that theyd be able to. theyd do better up north though in the colder lakes, but im sure that theyd get pretty damn big off of all the trout the dfg stocks.

Yeah they are still fighting the pike up here. People are illegally introducing them into many bodies of water and they are killing many species of fish. Pretty stupid, but they should find some bodies of water and stock them there, so people can fish for them.
