SF/San Pablo Bay Reports 3/18/06
The bays
S.F.-San Pablo: Foul weather and foul moods and a general sense of "Why
bother?" have combined to limit what's available in the way of reports.
Cheery, eh? Slightly sunnier news can be found in the North Bay, even if
the skies aren't. Keith Fraser sold sturgeon bait to anglers in three
boats Wednesday, and he heard back that all three groups landed at least
one keeper. China Camp (shore and boat), Shellbank, Pumphouse and Buoy 5
all have been worthwhile. Meanwhile, the brown-brown bay has made
striped bass fairly scarce, and all but assures a delayed start to our
shoreline trolling/plugging season ... Out of Port Sonoma, the
productive (and protected) water is still around the mouth of Petaluma
River, from the trestle to Black Point to the entrance to Bel Marin
Keys. A guy anchored out there Wednesday came in with a bass and a
keeper sturgeon. From shore, one of the co-owners of Leonard's Fuel,
Beer, Bait and Bikram Yoga seems to catch a bass a day, and she does
fish every day. Sonoma Creek is getting better by the day, as well, with
more bass showing up and sturgeon caught, too. On the bass note, if you
suspect it's a female, maybe do us all a favor and release it. Word from
the Napa is bass and sturgeon in the lower river, at Marker 7, between
Napa Valley Marina and Highway 37 ... There's also more grass shrimp in
the shops this week, as the shrimpers apparently are doing well along
the deep-water "Buoy Line," from the Mare Island rock wall out into the
shipping channel.
