Talking Alamitos Bay 5-2

Fished the bay in the evening and there was a good current and a little more wind then I like. The first thing I did was kick to a spot that almost always produces halibut for me. On my second cast with a live anchovie I get hooked up. Gave me a good fight on 6lb line and netted a 22.75'' halibut. Then I drifted across the beach and before I got to the end I managed a 14'' yellowfin croaker that I released. When I was unhooking the YFC I notice a nice sized ghost shrimp in its mouth. It was still in good shape so I said to myself "what the heck, I'll try it". 10yards later I'm hooked up again, this time it's a 13'' diamond turbot. I was surprised that it swallowed a big hook that I use for halibut. It was getting dark by this time so I kicked back to the first spot and caught a short 13'' halibut. Next bait gets slammed and when I set the hook I can tell it's a nice fish. Half way in the fish comes off. I guess the hook didn't set in since I was using one of my light rods. Finished a drift back just before it got dark and I was done. Kept the legal halibut and turbot.

I was thinking of Anahiem Bay, Huntinton Harbor...sorry. Where do you launch from and how heavy is the boat traffic?

In Alamitos Bay you can launch in any small beach you see. mothers beach and anywhere on Ocean Blvd. I go to Belmont pier catch my bait. Lots smelt, anchovies, sardines, small mackeral, queenfish, and shiner perch. Seriously the halibut in SoCal are biting very well right now. A friend of mine was fishing the same day in Huntington harbour and he caught a legal butt too. Huntington Harbour Halibut report
