Went fishing out of Marina Del Rey with some buddies on a 25ft cierra. We got on the water around 6:15 and there were bonita boiling on anchovies right behind the boat. We were too busy loading the boat to fish for them so we just watched them jump out of the water after the bait fish. Anyway, we got loaded, stopped and got some bait, and were on our way. I'm not really familiar with the area so I can't tell you exactly where we fished, but we were about 15 minutes south of the harbor.
The trip started out slow and it took us a while to find the fish. I was the first to hook up and I brought in a mack

My next cast out, I got a sculpin and my buddy frank caught a short halibut. About 30 minutes later, we see birds crashing everywhere and barracuda jumping! We move out to the middle of the fun and immediately start throwing our new action lures and get a double hookup on the cudas!

They were decent sized fish with most between 24 and 29 inches so nothing too big. We hooked up with a lot more than we landed thanks to a sealion who had a really big breakfast this morning. We had to tighten the drags and really crank the fish hard to get them to the boat whole!

After the surface action was over, we went back to drifting and picked up some more cudas, some sand bass, and more short halibuts. We ended the day drifting for halibut, but didn't get any legals. Just a bunch of shorts and some sand dabs. Anyway, we had a great time and we'll be out again soon.
