San Francisco Area Freshwater Reports 3/10/06
Freshwater
Rivers: The "should have been yesterday" rub applies, as the Chetco and
Smith and a few of the small coastal streams were fishing well between
storms. By late afternoon Wednesday, however, more than a half-inch of
rain had come down on the North Coast, and all the guides who were
willing and booked were making plans to fish the Smith, which probably
would be the only stream fishable today and for the next few days, with
more rain on the way. Only other bet would be the Trinity and inland
rivers, such as the American and Feather.
Trout plantings: Bay Area, this week (weather willing) ... Lake Chabot
(Castro Valley), 500 pounds. Horseshoe Lake at Quarry Lakes Regional
Park (Union City-Fremont), 750 pounds. Shadow Cliffs Reservoir
(Pleasanton), 750 pounds. Lake Del Valle (Livermore), 1,000 pounds. At
San Pablo Reservoir in El Sobrante, 9,500 pounds of trout have been
planted over the past few weeks. Since the season opener, nearly a month
removed, few have been caught, as few of you have been trying. There
were a dozen or so souls along the bank in front of the Main Rec.
yesterday, however, and the report had zero trout (murky water, and all)
but two catfish, 22 1/2 and 24 pounds (murky water, and all). Both gents
were using liver, chicken and pig ... Also: Napa's Lake Hennessey,
Sonoma's Ralphine Lake, Marin's Lake Lagunitas, Contra Costa's Lafayette
Reservoir, Santa Clara's Campbell Perc Pond, Cottonwood and Cunningham
lakes, and Santa Cruz's Pinto Lake ... Others: Butte's Thermalito
Forebay, El Dorado's El Dorado Forebay and Jenkinson Lake, Sacramento's
Folsom Lake (at Granite Bay), San Joaquin's Oak Grove Park Lake, and
Yuba's Collins Lake and Englebright Reservoir.
