Welcome to the site Johny. Glad to see new faces here. A great bunch of guys with centuries of knowledge between them. As far as mastering bait casting reels or fishing, this art is something in which it can be mastered; we are always learning new things out on the water.

Welcome to the site. With my baitcaster I like to immediately stop the spool when it hits water, then let it sink slowly. I find that this keeps the line taught so that the next time I cast the line isn't too slackly wound. Part of the trick to casting is keeping that spool evenly pressured. Also if you don't the sudden stop of the lure doesn't mean the spool is also going to get a sudden stop.

Welcome to the board. Just a little practice with the baitcaster and you will be casting like a pro. I think people just seem to be intimidated by them at first, then you realize how easy they really are to use.
