Seal Beach Surf Big Ol But' Lost 4/25

Body of Water: Seal Beach Surf
Location: Jetty near the naval base
Hours fished: 3:30pm-7:00pm
Fishing Type: surf
Target Species: halibut
Fish Species Caught: halibut, sandab
Quantity of Fish Caught: 2
Largest Fish: 12” sandab
Baits: MO redflake grub
Presentations Used: carolina
Rating: EXCELLENT well worth my time a great way to end the weekend and to cover up the terrible fishing the day before

Got at the beach at 3:30 tried fishing some sandcrabs lost a few fish but decided to quit because people were walking into my lines often even when I warned them. I tied on the grub and began fishing 20minutes into grubbing I hook up to what felt kinda like a halibut after a quick fight I bring up a 13” sandab that was a first for me. I plopped her in the bucket and went back. At that time another fisherman came over, he’d later become trouble. about 30minutes after he arrived I hooked up to a but a tiny one only about 10” I quickly unhooked her and released her. I made a cast and felt a massive amount of weight I hooked up to the mom. After a 5 minute fight and walking down the beach I was able to bring her close she was massive at id say around 34”. After 8+ attempts of trying to tail her she still didn’t give up. I was able to see her tons of times but I don’t know how my friend didn’t. after 10minutes in the fight, the fish was getting tired and we brought her within grabbing range alex went down for a swoop and missed. Then all of the sudden the other fisherman grabbed my line the fish ran and snapped, we had previously told him I was using to pound test. AHHHHHHHH After blurting out swear words for about 5minutes and him applogizing I was back to fishing. I forgave him he seemed like a nice guy after talking to the guy for a while, he really felt guilty. It flat out died after that. I didn’t feel too pissed but im still latching on to that memory. Im probally gonna get a lot of responses about me using ultra light line. Probally a lot of responses along the lines of ur insane, just to let you know I get that a lot lol. O yea im using cuda so it’s stronger than most 2lb test, no im not avertising. Ill be out there again next week to catch that big old but again.

Hey trout guy, that sucks you lost the big one. I fish with light line too. I usually fish 2 or 3# line for most things. It's just more fun that way! Thanks for the report.

Dude, that sucks. I would just count it as a catch.
