Todays Alaskan Adventure

Well today we decided to go on a drive, we went north. Got out and on the road at about 9:30 with some snacks, drinks and the dog. My mom wanted to go and see knik arm or cook inlet, and maybe see some whales. We were not sure the seasons that they came in. We drove up to the Knik River first, right before Eagle River(city) and went down to the river to take some pictures.

The mountains surround just about everything in town. From Eagle River we drove to Wasilla and on the way we saw two Moose out in the valley and 2 other animals we could not identify. It is really cool seeing so much wildlife around. There is a town called Knik that we were trying to get to, to see the Knik arm which is a big bay that has whales in it at some points in the season. We got a few miles out and the road turned into gravel, we didnt know what to think. Then it got very very bumpy. Beer bottles allover gun shooting targets on the tree branches hanging down, 2 cars, and a dead dog in the bushes. That was pretty disturbing, so we turned around.

We stopped in Wasilla and went to Wallmart :veryhappy: . I bought a thread rack for my flytying threads and got a tidebook and the fishing regs book. Then we went back to Anchorage. Drove by the army base(Elemdorf) and down along Ship creek. From my house Ship Creek is about 5 minutes away. Very convenient!. Here are some pictures:

The river looked pretty cool, prime habitat for them "big bows"! Saw a few people fishing, and didnt see any fish caught. The water was very clear. The people were using egg patterns. Then we headed down to the mouth of ship creek for a lookout of Cook inlet and the quick sand banks along ship creek. Once you get into the salmon fishing areas, most of it, it is very dirty, and the ground is like clay and quick sand, probably be a lot easier to fish from a boat. Here are some more pictures of what I was looking at:

Everything looked very cool, I cant wait to go fishing. I will probably go next weekend for some rainbows. Might not be biting that much but its worth a shot. I will be using egg patterns and some ESL's.
