Welcome to the board. There's some kayakers here that are pretty helpful. You're just in time as a Surf Perch tournament is being planned.

Welcome aboard! Some of us here are into local saltwater stuff, some are into sweetwater stuff, and some of us are trying to catch trout until the season starts back up.
Post well and often.

Welcome to the board ALLBENTUP. ANy buddy of Joe's is cool with me. Hope you stick around and invlove yourself. Joe's (Luv2Fish) a very respected member of this board. He'll tell you that we don't pull punches here or act like little baby's, cussing each othe out because we don't like what someone said on another board or the type of rod someone likes to use. There's a nice mixture of the "Hardcore" mentality here, and the new guy that wants to learn something and isn't afraid to ask questions.
You'll defintely find alot of good sportfishing camaraderie here, so needless to say fishing partners won't be scarce!
Good to have you here!

I couldn't agree with TONY more. I'm registered with two different fishing forums and this is my favorite by far. You should see some of the fights and bitching that goes on at the other site. One of the reasons why i think a lot of people are subscribing to this site now.

If you're looking for a perch setup I would reccomend a 6# spinning combo setup. Get a rod with Medium Action, and I would reccomend no shorter than 7'. Don't spend too much if you're going to use the reel for just the surf, salt and sand can easily corrode your reel.

I know you said you're not a big a fan of spinning gear, but for the type of fishing you'll be doing in the surf, you should really look at using a spinning set up. Some guys I know use small level wind baitcasters for Halibut, but for everything else that you'll find in front of the break, go spinning.
