Fred Hall is a Sportfishing Specific show with Boats tossed in as trailer (no pun intended). It's the largest fishing show in the world (the Long Beach show)
The Sportsmans expo is about 20-maaaayyyyybe 25% fishing and the rest is all hunting and camping. They have Elk and Duck call competition for Christ sake!
I'm gonna enter the Tuna calling competition..........Mooooo ....Moooooo
I didn't go last year but I went the year before when I had just started up California Custom Angling Company. I will probably go to make contacts and start some sort of relationship with alot of the fishing lodges that have booths there. If I go it's going to be for 85% business reasons.
If a small group of us wanna go, I'm down to go.

Some deals are available. I went to one years ago, and scored a 6'6" Daiwa Procaster for $9.99. It was a $50-$60 rod at that time.

That depends on when it is. It's very close to the barn, so I don't have a problem going there at all.
It's very near Puddingstone, Sean.

I've been there before. I got san Orvis Waders that retailed $129 and got it for $35 buck, the daytripper float tube cost about $99 and then they dropped it to $69 on the last day. They also had the Kennenec and Togiak for around the same price. Lots of hooks, nets, etc on sale.
One problem is that Sportmart is not one of the vendors that will represent this year. I guess when it got bought out by Sports Authority, Sports Authority didn't want to be at the show. However, I know that Turners will be there.
If you never been there, they have a lot of demos - fly fishing, trout fishing, etc. They had a huge bass tank w/ structures etc and professional bass fishermans goes out there and demonstrate some bass fishing techniques. One hanger is usually filled with camping, and hunting, the other hanger is fishing related stuff.
I know Northern California this is the show to go! They have top vendors going unlike the one is Socal where there are a lot of local stores. Kinda strange to me since Daiwa, Okuma, Shimano, Accurate, Avet, Kencor, Phenix, etc are all local to Socal.
Here is a $1 discount if you are interested

Cool thanks for the coupon Harold!
Dude, my new T.U. Togiak is gonna cost me $145.00 plus tax and my Day Tripper about the same( I'm getting the Togiak for Freshwater and I'm getting the Day Tripper for saltwater, since it sits higher).
Are you telling me that you saw the Kennebec, the Togiak and the Day Tripper there for around $70.00 bucks each!!!?? If this is true then that means I can get both the Day Tripper and T.U. Togiak for the price that it costs for one at the standard retail rate. That's crazy.
But I'm sure that if Trout Unlimited and Skeeter are gonna be at the Fred Hall show as well, I can probably find the same deal there also. I'm going to the Pomona show even though it's only about 2.5 weeks before the Fred show...mostly for C.C.A.C. business contacts though.
Who's ever going the the Sportsmans Expo in Pomona, say it and we can all meet there and walk it together.

The reason why these SoCal based companies aren't really concentrating on the Sportsmans Expo here in L.A. is because the Hall show is 2 weeks later and the preparation, time and money it takes to get ready to do the Fred Hall show is very consuming and it would be overkill to do a show in basically the same city two weeks earlier. the Fred hall show already happened up north in S.F. so there's no competition up there right now.

Sportmart is exactly where I am getting the Togiak for $145.00. They didn't have the Day Tripper so I think I'm either going to REI or Turners for that. I think Turners is the one tha had the Day Tripper for around $140.00
Well I hope someone is there at the Pomona show or at the Fred Hall (L.B.) show so i can get a smooth deal like $70.00!!

Personally, if i was a multi-million dollar company like Shimano, Okuma, Daiwa, etc I would make it a point and spend a couple of hundred dollars to go to ISA and show them my products. Maybe pretend that ISA is a practice run and improve it at Fred Hall. I remember a time when I thought a Shakespeare Ugly stick and reel was the best rod/reel combo out there.
