New Fish

Another new guy here (Dave). Just moved my boat up from San Carlos Mexico last month and I am slipped up in King Harbor. I have been getting out 3-4 times a week so will post my findings weekly here. Really looking forward to the flatty season this year, so if anyone knows of some really good fishing spots don't hesitate to share (kidding of course... lol).

Water has been real cold between 54-55 degrees the past few days and a little chop. Was out yesterday admist the sailboat racing and man it was scary. Nothing like having 20 sailboats coming right at you drifing the paliwan wreck. Windy conditions rendered alot of them out of control. Still cool to watch for about 5 miniutes and then we had to get back to fishing. Hooked a 4lb calico (C&R), couple sand dabs, 2 scorps (out of season) and a few short sand bass. Tried drifing the edge of the canyon for some butts but we were moving way to fast with the wind.

Saw some blue whales blowing mist off in the distance.

On the way in I think we caught a glimps of some salmon breaching in the harbor. I have heard some reports they were around.

Will be going out again this Tuesday weather permitting will give an update to yall Wednesday.

Look forward to chatting with you all.

Take care
D

Welcome, thanks for the report on your first way to go.

Just curious, what boat do you have?

20' Gregor Ocean 20

Boat is a 2002 20' Gregor http://www.gregorboats.com/oseries.htm w/ 100HP Yahmaha and a 9.9 Johnson kicker just in case.

I have installed an Atlantic Tops fiberglass top on this boat along with GPS, Sounder and I am getting ready to put on the RayMarine radar system.

I had it down in San Carlos, Mexico and took it out Dorodo, Sail and Marlin fishing every summer since 2002. A couple buddys and I are getting a new (2004) 27' Proline for down there in time for the summer.

I have always said that this boat can take more than I can in the sea.

I'll get some pics this week with the new top on it!

Thanks for the warm welcome!

Those Gregor's look like great boats and they are a really good boat to fish the baja with. I like the higher bow, it helps.

Hey Dave, what's up bro? Welcome to the board. It's always nice to have another new angler on board who's serious about the sport! You'lll find a bunch of harcore mentalities here accompanied with warm welcomes! We don't run like the other boards here! Everybody helps everybody no matter what your experience (though it seems like you're decently experienced already.

Very nice boat! I use to have a boat back a few years ago. It was a Carver 26' cabin cruiser with twin Volvo in boards. Cruised around with it more than fished it though; and the cabin was used for "putting footprints on the ceiling" more than anything, if you know what I mean

Don't talk about it much because I miss it, and I'm not ready to purchase another one just yet.

Hope you stick around and not just lurk around lol! Be great to have your reports and your posts here at Hook Up. talk to you soon.
