Suisan/San Pablo Bay Report
THE BAYS
SUISUN: Jordona Santiago of Martinez Bait and Tackle reported good
fishing this week. The sturgeon are coming around in several areas, and
some stripers are being caught here and there. The late morning through
early evening minus tides are the best to fish in. With grass shrimp
being non-existent, try using ghost shrimp, eel, pile worm and herring.
Catching sturgeon were Darren Viera of Martinez (75.75 inches, 121
pounds -- released) at the East end of the Mothball Fleet on grass
shrimp, Jeremy Kangas of Martinez (62 inches -- released) at Buoy 4 on
ghost shrimp, Mark Peters of Martinez (58 inches) at Buoy 4 on ghost
shrimp, Jerry Koons (53 inches) from the Eckley Pier on ghost shrimp,
Paul Skredsvig of Santa Rosa (57 inches, 30 pounds) from Roe and Ryer
Island on eel and Gary Grant of Hayward (52 inches) at the Rock Wall on
a ghost shrimp/herring combo.
Carwin Thompson of Pleasant Hill caught a 55.5-inch, 34.3-pound sturgeon
at Grizzly Bay on a pile worm/ghost shrimp combo and caught two stripers
totaling 46 inches on pile worms. Tripp Sloat of Pleasant Hill caught a
57-inch, 44.6-pound sturgeon at the east end of the Mothball Fleet on
ghost shrimp and a 30-inch, 9-pound striper on ghost shrimp.
Will and Michael Barnett caught a 20-inch striper at the third row of
ships on ghost shrimp.
SAN PABLO: Jim Smith of the charter boat Happy Hooker said conditions
have been favorable for sturgeon fishing after the rain storms of last
week. Fishing near the Pump House on Saturday, they caught five sturgeon
(three keepers) ranging from 28-63 pounds using ghost shrimp. They would
have had more if it had not been for some back luck and two broken
lines. They also had one 6-pound striper.
Smith expects the fishing to remain good through the weekend.
