GLoomis BBR966C

I got this rod because its light, stiff and sensetivie enough for my Newell 220 w/ 20 lb test. this rod is for salmon but i use it on the local stuff. ive heard people say that Gloomis kinda sux but i beg to differ. i got fish from bass, cudas, rock fish, sheep head, even sharks and bats. i just wanna hear what you guys have to say about this rod or any other Gloomis rods.

Whoever told you that Gloomis rods suck must be a complete moron because they're one of the best if not THE best rods on the market.

that is the great swimbait rod for plugs up to 9 inches. dont listen to the others, i have that rod and love it. it doesnt have enough backbone for larger saltwater fish though.

You guys are going to totally disagree with me but Gloomis Rods arent that great. For the price they are not worth it and all of the new ones are poorly made. Even though I do own two I got rediculous deals on them so I could not pass them up. I do like the two I own but they are not worth buying for their original price. So far all the Gloomis rods I have seen have something wrong with them. Almost all of their rods are not splined properly. For those of you that dont know what the spline is put the base of your rod on the ground and grab the rod tip. Normally the eyes are supposed to line up and not rock back and forth but with Loomis rods they do not. This results in their tendency to break. Also, Ive had to send the pelagic rods back to the manufacturer because the reel seat and the eyes are very misaligned. We had one in the store where the eyes were very noticably misaligned.
Dont get me wrong I do like their rods but for the price they are not worth it. Just buy a Phenix or other custom rod instead.

Sean,

That statement would have been true about 10 years ago when Gary Loomis still manufactured GLoomis rods. For several years now they are just an "Fake off shoot" of Shimano. They are Shimano blanks, not GLoomis! They are a very good Shimano blank; don't get me wrong, but the specs on the Mandrils for the blank don't come close to matching up with what GLoomis rods use to be, when they were GLoomis rods. They're basically a high end Shimano blank with the G.Loomis name stamped on it. I don't like that at all; pisses me off. They're good rods, but again, Shimano has talken the opportunity to gouge the consumer pocket by putting the G. Loomis stamp on a rod that is not a true GLoomis rod, and way over charge for it.

I haven't been able to find any mass produced rod that measures up to the sensitivity, and feel of the G Loomis rods. They are expensive because they are the top of the line for what they are. I've fished the loomis, kistler helium, and st croix legend elite rods and new tournament elite series for bass and the loomis just feel better when you're fishing. They seem to be balanced better as well which I think makes it feel different.

The expense part is somewhat relative. If I had the money to fish the G Loomis exclusively, I would. For those that can afford them, they are worth every penny. I can't spend that much so I fish St Croix and am very happy with them.

My opinion is only based on the freshwater bass rods. I haven't had experience with any of the others.

Woo woo! I with you 100% on this one. Of all the rods I have broken in my life time of fishing, G. Loomis on 5 occasions. All battling a fish. The only rod of theirs I like is the 9' Pelagic Series Calico Stick. However, finding one that is spined properly is difficult.

Yup! Shimano took over back in '96 and things haven't been the same. Gary still works for them however. Kinda odd.

Fish Setyr and Rogue!

I need a Setyr website BTW.

Oh, also, who told you that Gary is still working for Shimano???....He left when he started Rogue, and then not too long ago he sold Rogue an started "Squadron" rods.................just kidding........get it?? "Rogue Squadron"??? from Star Wars??? nevermind, anyway when he sold Rogue, he started something else and then he'll probably sell that and retire away on some cliff over looking a rocky coastline and some rare Bonzai tree like where Mr. Miagi had his.

Surf Rods for lures (not the long a$$ live bait surf rods) in no particular order:

Rogue
Cape Fear
St. Croix
Setyr (I'll take your word for it)
Lamiglas
Damon Rods

That's my pick. Anything else you can think of....anybody??

I would have said Kencor if they had a better back bone on thier lighter rods.
