Central Coast Bay Report 12/1/05
THE BAYS
SUISUN: Jordona Santiago of Martinez Bait and Tackle reported good
fishing this week. The striper action has been very good despite the
absence of bullhead. Anchovies, sardines, shad and grass shrimp also are
working. Hot spots range from the Martinez Pier through the Mothball
Fleet. Only a couple sturgeon were caught on grass shrimp above the
fleet at Buoy 9 and the Big Cut. This weekend's tides will be an
improvement. Fishing from late morning to early afternoon is good, but
fishing in the early afternoon through the evening is great, with nearly
7 feet of movement for the outgo. The recent rains also should help
sturgeon fishing.
Catching stripers were Rob Castro of Castro Valley (43 inches, 33
pounds) at Buoy 9 on bullhead, Lenny Rather of Hayward (5 and 10 pounds)
at Buoy 9 on bullhead, Alaina Halican of Martinez (27 inches, 7 pounds)
from the Martinez pier on grass shrimp, Jose Perez of Pittsburg (31
inches, 10.5 pounds) at Seal Island on sardine, Mel Caires of Castro
Valley (37 and 33 inches) at Buoy 6 on bullhead and Mike Basaraba of
Castro Valley (24 inches) at Buoy 6 on bullhead. Others included Jim
Kettriotis of San Ramon (two totaling 35 pounds) at the sixth row on
bullhead, Rick Van Meter of San Ramon (two totaling 18.6 pounds) at the
oil refinery on anchovies and Bill Schirmer of Pleasant Hill (32.5
inches, 16 pounds) at the first row of ships (west end) on shad.
Other catches were reported by Robert Galletti of Concord (52 inches,
33.8 pounds) at the Big Cut and Bill Cruz of Hayward (60 inches, 50.6
pounds) at Buoy 9. Both used grass shrimp.
