SM surf report 4-11

My friend jerry(jerryg24) and I hit the beach in the afternoon and fishing was steady. Both of us had about 12 barred perch each. His biggest being 13.5'' and mine was 12''. I managed a 14'' corbina on the grub too. Both of lost a couple halibut in the surf. His broke the line and mine just came unbottoned. Late in the evening we get a big double hook up and fight them for about 30 minutes. Turned out to be a couple of big shovelnose. Over all fishing was good with a steady bite on a varity of good sized fish.

Good job out there! Those shovelnose must have been a lot of fun on the light tackle! Thanks for the report.

Yea shovelnose are always fun to fight on light tackle. I especially like to fight them with light line.

They are fun to catch on light tackle. I've caught lots from the surf before, mostly on sand crabs. It took a long time to bring it in, too long in my opinion even for a 45 incher. At first I was thinking it could be a big halibut but after awhile I knew what it was and considered just breaking the line. I lost a lot of good fishing time because of it and I wasn't after sharks and rays.

I was fishing for bass at a local lake last month when I caught it. Had a black plastic worm out there was slowly working it when I felt a tap, tap, thump, and when I set the hook the koi almost spooled me on the first run. I was chasing it up and down the shoreline. Most of the time I was thinking I finally had my 15 pound bass. After 20 minutes and no jump I started to think Carp. I was definitly surprised to see a koi. That was a good day including 7 bass all over 3lbs.

That's very interesting sharkbait, I've never heard of anyone catching a koi b4. Those members of the goldfish family sure put up a fight.

Nice fish Anthony! Sounds like that was a great day fishing for you with that Koi and 7 bass over 3 pounds! Man, the people at the park must have thought you were crazy running up and down the shoreline!
