THE DELTA
Bernadette Pipkins of Gotcha! Bait and Tackle in Antioch said anglers
are having success fishing for sturgeon and striper. Sturgeon can be had
between Buoys 8 and 10 on the Sacramento River, along with Chain Island,
Broad Slough and Decker Island. Striper are being caught just about
everywhere, including middleground, West Island, Big Break, Decker
Island and the Antioch Pier.
Catching stripers were Steve Brookshire (44 pounds) using bullhead at
middleground. He and Christopher Brookshire also netted a 13-pound and a
12-pound striper using mudsuckers at Firing Line. Others included Jeff
Parson (7 pounds) and Herminio Delgado (4 pounds), Jerry Coats (two
totaling 10 pounds), Quincy Conn (two totaling 23 pounds), Vince Cochran
(two totaling 24 pounds), Mike Kelly (14.5 pounds), Mike Casey (11.5
pounds) and Eric Gollnick (5.05 pounds), who all used shad at West
Island. Jerrell Sheppard caught a 16-pound striper and 6-pound striper
using bullhead at middleground and Kris Lue caught a 4.5-pound striper
using shad at Big Break.
Catching sturgeon were Mike Bruno (75 pounds), Dave Yokum (25 pounds),
Ricardo Enriquez (42 pounds), Nicky Sicondfi (55 pounds) and Anthony
Ribeiro (58 pounds). Others included Russ Pipkins (43 pounds) on grass
shrimp, Maurice Pipkins (40 pounds), John Abenoja and Jerry Batchelor
(40 pounds and 80 pounds).
Kenny and Jordan Peacock caught a 2.5- and 1.5-pound black bass and a
3-pound striper using Rat-L-Traps on the San Joaquin River, Jorge
Oseguera caught a 13.5-pound salmon using a Flying C at Forebay, and
Derek Jackson Sr. and Derek Jackson Jr. caught 15 pounds of catfish
using clams at Whiskey Slough.
