Trolling Motor Question

Ok, I have a Minn Kota Endura 30 and I'm wondering if it would be ok to use it in saltwater. After seeing Gerald in his pontoon this weekend I really want to get one and use it in the lakes as well as harbors. What do you guys think? If I rinse it off with freshwater after taking it in the harbor, will it be ok?

I was told by someone that has a Endura 34 and takes it in the salt more then freshwater, that all you need to do is just apply ALOT of grease to the threads of the transom bolts to keep them from rusting before you head out. Then rinse it off real good when you get back. I plan on taking my Endura 36 to do some bay fishing in the near future.

Gerald is correct on this one... Minn Kota makes saltwater specific trolling motors (Riptide)

For saltwater, you'll need much more thrust than a 30. I have an Endura 36 that I use on my small 23 acre lake in WI, and I already have enough trouble with it during windy days.

If you must, grease each and every gear, including the prop, and just hope that it won't corrode.

Jig, you think the 30 isn't enough? I'll just need it to move a pontoon boat that's approx. 70 pounds. What do you have your motor on?

The Endura 36 is hooked up on my 12' Jon

I also use it on my 14ft Mirro Craft fishing boat w/ 10hp Johnson on windless days.

If you're just using it on a 70lb pontoon, it should be fine, but I don't know about a freshwater motor for saltwater fishing.....

Yeah, I kinda figured it would be fine on thrust.

Here is a link to a guy that uses his Endura 34 in the ocean all the time.

Thanks Gerald! That definitely answers my question. I think the endura I have will work well.

One more thing I just thought of. It will depend on what Pontoon Boat you get and what the height of the motor mount is to see if your motor will work. If your motor has a 30" shaft length, it would be to short to work on a boat like mine. My motor has a 36" shaft.
