Anaheim Bay 4/10/04

Fished Anaheim Bay last night from 4pm to 630pm using assorted 4" curly tail and scampi plastics. The color of choice lately has been motor oil with silver and red flakes. I have not been able to keep up with the sandies and spotties tearing them up! Caught 8=Sandies 6=Spotties(one of them going around 4lbs) 2=Halies(short) a little cold and windy and the navy has made it tough to fish there. All the good bass spots are closed to fishing.

That's awesome! I'm going to have to get out there sometime soon. Thanks for the report.

It is close to where PCH hits Seal Beach BLVD. It is actually called Anaheim Bridge where PCH goes over the bay just east of Seal Beach Blvd.

Now that's a good report. Fishing is usually like that when I fish there. Good job!

I plan on launching my float tube this summer off one of the little beaches behind the houses near Warner Ave. or over near where Edenger ends...anyone fished these areas off a tube before?

I've tubed off the small beaches near edinger in the summer. I go at night and catch lots of spotties and sand bass.

How heavy is the boat traffic? do any of the home or boat owners give you a hard time? What plastics/colors have you produced on? I am pretty good at making my own live bait I think I will take a scoop of Smelt.

Boat traffic is not too bad. If you go during the week you'll have the harbor to yourself. On a weekend the harbor is still not too crowded unlike Newport bay which can be packed on a weekend. For sandbass use anything thats chartreuse. Other good colors are browns, clear w/ red flake, and pumpkinseed. Experiment with other colors too. Rainbow trout colored swimbaits are also great. Stick with 3'' kalin grubs on a 1/4oz. darter leadhead and 3'' Big Hammer swimbaits. Live smelt also works very good. The most important tip I can give you is to fish according to the tides. Don't plan on kicking up the harbor during a outgoing tide. Drift with the current and during a slack tide or tide switch kick back to your lauch area. Lots of people have tried kicking against strong current and it will make you very tired and it will take you forever to make progress. Plus swimming your bait with the current gets hit a lot more.
