THE RIVERS
SACRAMENTO RIVER, ANDERSON: Kirk Portocarrero of Outdoor Adventures
Sport Fishing said action for king salmon is good in the Balls Ferry
area with limits being had some days. Some huge kings up to 45 pounds
are being caught using Flatfish lures with sardine wrap.
SACRAMENTO RIVER, REDDING: Portocarrero said fly fishing and drifting
for rainbow trout are fair to good with some 2-4 pounders being caught.
A few steelhead are also being caught and released while drifting from
Redding to Anderson. Anglers are using Fox's Poopah, Copper John Nymphs
Nos. 14-16 in brown and Prince Nymphs Nos. 14-16 in olive and brown.
THE DELTA
Bernadette Pipkins of Gotcha! Bait and Tackle in Antioch said striper
fishing continues to be good with anglers enjoying success at the
Antioch Pier (at night), Broad Slough, Sherman Lake and Horseshoe Bend.
Mudsuckers, bullhead and shad are working well. Sturgeon fishing is
improving, with the Sacramento River and Chain Island being two places
to try. Grass and ghost shrimp are both working.
Catching stripers were Cody and Vic Quarello (24 inches, 5 pounds) on
mudsuckers at Sherman Lake, Jim Dawson (45 inches, 30 pounds) on
bullhead near Chain Island, Alyssa Fama (2.5 pounds) off of the Antioch
Pier using shad, Bill Penny (24 pounds, 15 ounces) at Los Vaqueros
Reservoir using shad, Rick Brown (12 pounds) using shad on the
Sacramento River and Joshua Gonzalez (5 pounds) on shad on the San
Joaquin River.
Catching sturgeon were Wade Gomez (75 pounds, 70 inches) with ghost
shrimp at Chain Island and Frank Riley (62 inches, 65 pounds) on the
Sacramento River using grass shrimp. Alvin Hockenhull caught two black
bass totaling 11 pounds from Holland Tract using minnows.
