I made my flytying desk not to long ago, and its cool because you can add and mess around with the stuff that you want on it. I ran out of thread space and I am buying a thread rack thing pretty soon. I just would like to see what other peoples imagination has came to. I am getting another desk to put my flytying stuff on but for now that will have to do. We just moved and got rid of a lot of stuff, so once that happens I will have my "AREA" up! I am also buying a rotary vise form a friend of mine fairly soon. I have been tying for about 3 years now, but I have thrown a liking into tying salmon and steelhead flies. There is something about them, the vibrant colors, flashes, shapes and picaso of feathers. When you try that fly for the first time and it doesnt look to well, you try again. After a few times you tie a very good one and it makes you feal very good of what you have accomplished.
Salmon and steelhead flies can be very tricky and you will need to be maticilous at time, thats why I like it. Its a great challenge tying one for the first time. Back in Oregon where I used to live I only tied trout patterns. I mainly tied; elk hair caddis, pheasant tails, prince nymphs, wooley buggers, leaches, copper johns etc. The basic trout delights. Since the move up north the patterns have changed progressivley from rubber and shelled bodys to abundant marabou, and glitter galore! Fly-tying is a very fun and mysterious hobbie, you never know whats going to happen next!
Hooking that first fish on a fly is a fealing of a life time. Everyone I know enjoys it even more when that trophy fish was caught on something they tie with there bare hands.
In conclusion; fly fishing/flytying are hobbies and sports that cannot be defined but are an experience of a life time!
Some Photos of my tying desk and a view of a fly I tied recently in the background:
Yah thanks, I hand made that desk, I want to add more handmade appliances to it also. I want to make a thread holder and a bobbin holder, and maybe a feather rack. I will put all of my feather in ziplocks then add a hook at the top to hang on a rack where it easy to get to and out of the way.
Yea, i just started tying my own midges, and its FUN! I'll send you guys a picture of my fly tying area when i get new batteries for my camera.

Dude that is a Nice flytying desk! I wish I could make an indoor desk. I just use my rod building desk as a flytying desk. Its ok but its in the garage and I get cold and lonely lol.
Batman
i havent tied a fly for about a year. i had perfected tying nymphs (perfect for my applications atleast) and it was a ton of fun catching fish on them.
Thanks guys, I have also had my desk out in the garage. I didnt really like it. One because of getting cold and lonely but also I was squished between the wall and the car. My desk was in the middle.LOL
