Gentleman 3/6/04

I went out on the Gentleman yesterday with my buddy Todd for a little rockfishing. It was a 3/4 day trip out of Channel Islands Sportfishing and we left at 6. The weather was sunny and warm most of the day and the fishing was WFO!! The boat was packed with 40 anglers and we ended up limiting out the boat by around 12:30!!!!

We were fishing between 300 and 340ft and were catching a lot of nice fish. Todd hooked up with something huge that pulled off about 50 yards of line before it broke him off under the boat. The fish were hitting pretty much everything. The bite was nonstop all day. We caught fish on jigs, squid, and fin bait. Interestingly, the boat limited out on bocaccio (1 per angler) and they were really nice sized fish. I didn't see many under 2 or 3 pounds. The jackpot fish was actually a big bocaccio.

It was a great day and I'll be back out there again soon. If any of you have been thinking of going out on a sportfishing boat, now is the time!

Sounds like you had a great trip. Wish I could have made it up there. Thanks for the report.

We used shrimp flies tipped with squid, jigs, and just squid on a hook worked really well too. They will hit pretty much anything you throw down there right now. The best jigs are the ones that are all lead. They are much easier to fish down deep.
