Derby @ LNL
I was wondering if anyone would be interested in setting up a small flyfishing derby at LNL. it will be a good chance to met some memembers also it is an opportunity for people who have not fly fished LNL to learn from individuals who fish the lake regularly.
Just an idea, what you guys think?

Numbnuts, I have set up tournaments with Bobbie there before, and she is always willing to put together new tournaments. Discuss this with me more, and we can make it happen.

We can have a pot and the person with the biggest fish takes the pot. Or if its a big turnout we can do biggest fish and biggest stringer split the pot.
Again its a great opportunity to meet some members and flyfish and of course bragging rights lol.
Also, who would be intrested in this? and will it help the tournout if we change it from a flyfishing only to artificials only tourny.
Any comments..ideas..suggestions

I know it's not exactly what you're talking about but we already have planned the next HookUpSprotFiahing.com Get Together / Contest for the 26th of this month. Here's the info:
Hook Up Sportfishing's First Freshwater Get Together: 2/26/05
But it was changed to the 26th of March.

Numbnuts, we can do a pot, but there are financial things that need to be discussed concerning this. PM me for more info.

Great ideas guys. We can set this up for a weekend in April. What weekend in April works best for you guys. Also, let's take the LNL stocking schedule into consideration when choosing a weekend so we have the best chance for success!

I think that's a good idea, but I would suggest doing it this way:
Who's ever fly rodding, the money that they pay to enter the derby goes into one pot, and who's ever fishing conventional, the money that they pay to enter the derby goes into another pot. Don't mix the prize money. One catagory for Fly Fishing and another catagory for conventional fishing. That's honestly the fairest way to do it.

Tony thats a good idea but what if in one group we only have a couple people then that wont work very well. Also i know people who jig and midge that lake so that would be a problem as well.
In order to figure this out, as of right now who would be intrested in going and are you planning on fly fishing(midging and/or pulling woolybuggers) or using other artificials
I myself would be only be flyfishing

I do hear ya on that one; but then I think the only solution is don't split the pot between fly fishing and conventional. If you divide it into catagories - Fly Fishing / conventional fishing, then it wouldn't be fair for the fly angler to take money from the conventional pot, or vice versa, becasue it's two different catagories. The only solution is to have one big pot that includes all the entrance fee money and the winner is the angler with the biggest fish, no matter what they're fishing application is.
Let's say the entrance fees for each angler is $15.00. Now let's say that there are two split catagories (fly & conventional). If there are only 4 people registered for fly fishing (that's $60 bucks total pot) and there are 10 people registered for conventional catagory (that's $150 bucks total pot), making it a grand total pot of $210.00, then It wouldn't be fair for the top fly angler to take half of the pot ($105.00) when the fly fishing catagory only put in $60 to begin with, or vice versa. That's why if we just have one big pot it's much more fair, and the angler with the biggest fish takes the pot in full.
Now we can add additional prizes like the largest fish caught on conventional tackle gets a tackle prize package and the largest fish caught on fly gets a tackle prize package also (excluding the angler that already won the money).
I just think it's more fair that way. I don't know, tell me what you think.

I agree the best thing would to be to have one pot and we can either do the bigest fish takes the pot or the biggest fish and the biggest stringer split the pot. This way it wont mater what method you choose to fish, just no bait.
Also, just a question how would you guys feel if we made it strictly flyfishing??
How many people would be interested?

Fly fishing as in only using flies or meaning fly rods only? Either way I don't think that we have enough fly anglers here on the site to make a full fledged fly tournament. I think when we put things together like this, it needs to be pretty general so that everyone can participate. Now I do think you have an incredible idea with splitting the winnings.....First place for individual fish (by weight, not length), and then First place for heaviest stringer; and those two slpit the pot, great idea!
Doing something that is strickly based around fly fishing is something that the guys on this site that fly fish can kinda put together on their own. I don't don't fly rod, but I do fly fish, I spin cast flies (which is a whole other art form), and I'm very good at presenting flies the way their supposed to be fished, but on spinning rod.
I love the idea of a bunch of us "Fly enthusiasts" getting together to have an event of our own, but I do think if it's a HUSF.com event, it should involve everyone.
Why dont you and I start throwing around the idea of getting abunch of us Fly guys together to have an outting of our own; cool?
Just a heads up for everyone here on the site. Last year Jonathan allowed/ hired my company ( the California Custom Angling Co.) to custom design and produce the very first ever Annual HookUpSportFishing.com Trout Derby Open. It's taking a bit longer than was expected. This will be an "open" tournament meaning anglers from all over. It will have major advertising, major sponsorships, major cash and prize winnings, etc., and be held over a three day period. It will be held in a new location every year. The location of the first annual HUSF.com trout derby open has been chosen , but will not be revealed until advertising for the event begins. We had hoped to have it set for this spring, unfortunately it will not see the light of day this spring, but very possibly this late summer though preferably early Fall 2005. Be aware that the entry fees for a tournament like this will not be even remotely in your $15 - $20 range, it will be much more for a derby of this magnatude, but will be worth it.
