Most Memorable Fish

Out of all of the fish you have caught on fly, what has been the most memorable? Why was it so memorable?

I think my most memorable fish on fly had to have been my very first. When I first went, it was around 6 years ago. I didn't know anything about fly fishing, nothing. Then my step dad came along and that is the day it all got started and when I was hooked. We went down to the Wilson River on the Oregon coast. I was borrowing a Sage flyrod from my step dad and we had on Tan Elk Hair Caddis. Not sure size, but it worked. After not to long I felt a nibble and my heart stopped. I set the hook with line all tangled around me and there was a little Rainbow on. My rod was bairly even bending but it felt so good, and gave me a major rush. It was so much fun and since then I have not stopped. I hope to share this with my kids in the future!

Just a few months ago I caught my biggest Rainbow. It was 20", and some great color to it. I didn't get the full thrill of the fight because I was using a crap rod(other broke, and my other one was in Oregon). It didn't bend a whole lot but when I hooked the fish boy was my heard beating!

My most memorable catch on fly was just a few months ago actually. Most of you have read the thread on it already located here in the Fishing Around The World section - Fricken Mongolia Man!!!

I was fortunate enough to spend a little time after a business trip to S. Korea and fish the Hovsgol Region of Mongolia for Taimen, Lenok, and Grayling. I landed a 33lb Taimen on a Caledon "Waterdog" Bass fly (natural with amber color tail). Amazing is all I can say. My next goal with a fly is Sailfish. I've taken many, but never on fly. When I fly fish, I don't use a Fly Rod, I spin cast flies, which makes it more difficult to control the presentation of a fly, but I think I've mastered the presenting of flies on a spinning rod.

like globalfisher my first fish on a fly was my most memorable, i was extremely new to fly fishing. i was surf fishing in mexico and it was about 6:45 in the morning and it was that perfect transition time when the sun is coming out and the fish are eating. i was fishing with a friend who i had met at the hotel a year ago and he let me borrow one of his stripping baskets ( which was a life saver). i was at my last strip and was about to lift the rod tip to cast when a little mexican lookdown grabbed my fly just a few feet off the beach. since i had so much line in the basket i didnt get him on the reel but it was alot of fun and i let him go to fight another day. since then i was hooked.

My most memorable fish on the fly was last year at crowely lake. I hooked into a 19" rainbow on my 3 weight rod. Crowley lake trout are known to be one of the hardest fighting trout in California. Awesome fight on the light weight rod.

Yeah, Crowley's got a great reputation for big Alpers. Sounds like it was a nice fish!

Actually Tony it wasnt an Alpers. It was a fingerling that was stocked atleast 3-4 years ago. My biggest trout to date is 7 lbs on a 2 lb line but the fight was no where close to to the one i caught at crowely on the fly.
