Eastern Sierras -After the opener!!

Eastern Sierras - After the Opener

Last year, toward the end of Summer, a few us had talked about going up to the Sierras together, Mammoth Lakes to be exact, and stay at my condo in town and fish the hell out of those waters up there. Unfortunately we never made it because Jonathan used the condo and burnt it down..(I'm just kidding)...

but seriously, we need to plan a trip up there for late May, early June; That's about a month to 5 weeks after the Opener. Going fishing during the first 2 -3 weeks of the Opener is a fricken headache! It's way over crowded and over rated. You can go with less crowds in June and the fishing is just as good if not better because there not as many people which equates to less movement and above water activity, so the fish tend not to spook as easy. Plus, we can go and fish Yosemite for the day; it's only about an Hour and a half drive from the town of Mammoth to the town of Yosemite Valley, and I know some kick ### spots in Yosemite to fish. I figure leave on a Thursday evening after work about 6pm, and get there about 10:30 or 11pm, and then come back Sunday night..... that's three days of fishing.

My condo (located in Krystal Villa West) is kinda small, but it's a two story condo with two full bathrooms, a nice kitchen, Dinning room, Living room, wood burning antique fireplace, T.V.'s DVD, VHS, etc. with capability to sleep 4 people in beds, one person on the nice big couch and two people in sleeping bags or cotts...That's 7 people very comfortably. So 5 more serious guys can go aside from myself and Jonathan ("Wahoo"). Haven't picked the exact date yet, but we should definitely talk about a date.

By the way, it'll cost every one only $10 each (if there's 7 of us) aside from food and gas, because I pay a cleaning service $70 to come in after it's been occupied and clean it back up again, so I figured we'd split the cleaning cost. Not bad, $10 bucks for Three days of fishing in the sierras and a condo to sleep in!

Actually, Harold and I were thinking of planning a trip up there and renting a cabin this year. Great idea Tony, i'll see if I can make it.

I was planning on going up to Bishop sometime in May as well, but I dont think I will make it as far North as Mammoth until later in the season. With the snow pack as heavy as it is the roads into the Devil's Postpile area might not be open until late June or into July, and I cant go up to that area without fishing the San Juaquin and Socher Lake. Also I have family that will be staying in Mammoth in early August sometime so I will hopefully be going then. I will keep my eye on your plans and we will see what happens.

Sounds good. Actually, Devils Postpile is one of the main areas that I wanted to target on the trip up in early June, I love fishing that area!!! I'm hoping there's a quick warming trend a few weeks before we go up. If we're lucky, the Parks dept. will open up that area and it should be decently snow free. We'll see.

Yup, it kinda depends on the weather dont it? I am thinking of going up to Bishop the weekend of May 13 or the 20th, or maybe the first weekend of June.
