2/28/04 Guasti Tournament
Arrived at 4:45am at Guasti and was probably about the 75th or more car in line. Had a sidewalk party (more like a BS session) a block away from the lake on a side street, parked under a "No Parking" sign at the end of the line. Finally got in around 6:30 and Jason came and got me in the parking lot and let me slide in to a spot to fish with him and Rick. (Thanks Jason and Rick, that was really cool!) There were no spots left to fish at this lake, people were standing literally elbow to elbow all the way around the lake waiting for the 7:00 starting horn to blow. A few mins. after seven, we were given the go ahead and all the anglers proceded to try and knock the fish unconscious with all the lead hitting the water at once! And I think we all succeeded in doing so. The bite was very slow. A few fish for a angler here and there but nothing steady. As many lines that were in the water, this place should have been fished out in one after noon. Im willing to bet there were less then a few hunded fish caught all day. I jigged, tossed lures, used mealworms under a bobber, and finally resorted to tossing out PB to get my 1st fish, a 1lb rat, around 11:00. 3:00 came putting the tourney to a end, and all I had to show for a HARD day of fishing was one little rat. Local Rookie and I decided to stay till the end of the day and the bite finally started to pick up a little around 4:00. I ended up with two 1lb rats and one that might have went 2lbs all caught on Chartruse PB. Probably heading back there Mon. morning to try to get one of those 10Lbers that they stocked. Should be LOTS of fish left in there.
