My friend Chris and I got there at 4. I had a pole w/ a 3 oz sliding sinker on with squid, and he had a dropper loop on his. I also brought my small trout pole lined w/ 6 lb test, and i put a freshwater 2 piece crankbait on it. So its still light out, and i casted out my big rod in the water.
As thats there, i decide to play around with my crankbait. I cast and retrieve a few times. Nothing. Then i noticed a rock that slanted down into the water and told chris "i bet there's a fish there, that provides great structure" So on the first cast, i cast out, reel in a bit, and BAM! I get a HUGE hit! This is on a light action trout rod, and my rod is going BENDO!! I see something white in the water, but i couldnt tell what it was. It darted for some kelp but i pulled on it just in time. I fought it for a bit more. I brought it up, and it was a barracuda! I had never caught a barracuda before, so that was cool. It was a pretty good size, i estimate around 3-4 lbs, but it was LONG.
So after that, we got up, and all of our squid was gone. The seagulls took it! DAMN SEAGULLS!!! No more bat ray fishing for us. lol. So now its dark, and i still have some squid left on my pole. i was fishing at the bottom of the jetty, and my 8' rod gets a HUGE HIT!! I run to my pole, but i didnt set the hook in time. Chris and i both agreed that it HAD to be a batray.
A little later in the night, we saw a bat ray come up to the surface, but we couldnt make out its shape.
Well, thats about it for my adventure.
My first Barracuda. (image is a little dark. Sorry)
